Sorry, periosteal releasing incision. Primary closure of a tensionless flap advancement is required following a guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedure. The periosteal releasing incision (PRI) is a commonly used technique for flap advancement. However, excessive use of the PRI technique to gain major flap advancement has consequences, such as swelling, paresthesia, bleeding and patient discomfort. This article describes a novel technique with a shallow incision and lateral stretching approach, Modified Periosteal Releasing Incision (MPRI), for flap advancement.

They can't cut right on gum they cut a small incision beside, skin attached to cheek to pull that over to get to tooth. That's how all removals are

Yes!! I woke thinking the worst of it. It's day three for me and my tongue went to exploring, and I touched my cheek a little and out of nowhere blood was coming out. Not really sure why they would sew the gum and cheek together, but I'm hoping the swelling goes down... Soon

This is what might have happened too and is still swollen. Surgery was less than 3 weeks ago. Miserable pain and stinging lessened when stitches were removed at 2 weeks.

3 sockets healed fine andthat one is still swollen. Plus now tgere is a big scabbed sore on the inside of her cheek as well. It spilled a lot of blood when it cracked opened and now it's scabbed over again. Seem to be still collecring blood behind the scab. Seeing surgeon again. Miserable and can't eat well.

Anyone has update on how your mouth and gums finally healed ? All is well now ? I hope so. That is my only hope.

i recently got my bottom wisdom teeth removed. lets say im not having a good week. the swelling is bad and my throat is killing me. today i checked it out in the mirror and i seen that the right side is tied to the inside of my cheek, i kept wondering why the swelling on right side was worse and now i'm ticked off. why did they do that? don't they know that it would hurt more if they did it that way

I'd like to know why they do that too. I had all my teeth out when I was 19 and dentures installed. I had two molars out when I was 17 and went to work on the swing shift in the cotton mill that afternoon, nothing was stitched up at all. Later, in the army they decided to remove all the rest of them. They took out all the molars up and down on one side first, a couple weeks later they did the other side. Two more weeks they took out the front teeth on top and two weeks later the bottom ones. They stitched up the gums on the molars but not the front teeth and never stitched anything to my cheeks. They must have done some digging to get the molars because some of them were so decayed the gums had grown over them. I heard him remark that he found some remains he didn't even know were in there. But they didn't sew anything to my cheeks.

I just got my wisdom teeth removed (all 4) and they did the same thing to me... my surgeon explained what had happened and why...
My bottom right tooth was difficult to remove on it's own, so they had to cut around some of the gum and file some of my jawbone to remove the tooth. In consequence, so that the blood would clot easier, a tiny part of my cheek was sewn to my gum... not too long after the stitch had "popped"... as long as there was no excessive bleeding or long lasting pain it's fine...
Hopefully it answers all your questions!!

I just got my wisdom teeth extracted and I'm having the exact same problem with the stitches! I'm going to ask about it when I go back to get my check up.

My dental hygienist friend says the uma are often like hamburger meat when a tooth is extracted. Often when the cheek is attached to the gums it is because it was hard for the surgeon to see visually. She informed me that the week or so it takes for the dissolvable stitches to come out, the cheek and gum will not have time to adhere to one another. She told me to reach out to my oral surgeons office if it is causing discomfort and they can restitch it etc.

Although I can't be sure they don't have a good reason (helping to cover the cavity during healing) for stitching cheek to gum... I wouldn't be surprised if it happens by accident. I have worked in dentistry (never saw this procedure) and the tissue swells a lot during a difficult extraction so the crease between the back of the ridge of your gum and your cheek may not be obvious. I imagine this happens a lot but nobody will own up to it when they can say they did it on purpose.
