hi guys! boy am i relieved to have read this thread! i could swear i asked my dds a million times why my cheek seems to be stitched to my gum. had my lower left wisdom tooth taken out yesterday and it hurts now and i have a little swelling. my dds said it just looks like its stitched but is actually not. i tried using a cotton bud to see if the cheek would separate from the gum but the whole area is so tender that im not sure if it did. now that i have read your comments, i agree, maybe its done so healing would be faster. i sure hope it wont be permanently stuck though. still cant believe i had dental surgery done. i still have 2 wisdom teeth to go but only 1 is impacted. hopefully it wont be a bother so i dont have to go through this ordeal again. why its a top secret, i dont know. weird! love the dds' disclaimer on 1 of the replies. "CHEEK NOT STITCHED!" bwhaahahah

im having my stitches removed in the morning! scared it will hurt but cant wait as i am not liking the taste of the thread anymore. haha! it gets better. i had a whole pint of ice cream and that did it for me on the cheek biting. the swolen inner cheeks subsided and i no longer bite on them anymore.

Same thing happened to me 3 days ago, but my cheek is so sore, and everything is so tight on one side. I went back to the oral surgeon on-call today (my doc is on vacation), and he only said "things look normal" and he confirmed I had stitches on my cheek (which made no sense to me, until I read here). My jaw is still completely numb, and my tongue and cheek are so fat I have a speech impediment. Fortunately, my sister is a speech therapist, because I may need some speech therapy. No one can understand what I am saying...

I had my bottom wisdom teeth cut out yesterday and the dentist sew my tongue to my gum, he said that he did it at the base of my tongue (but it was half way up my tongue) to restrict movement in my mouth!! I cut the string last night because it hurt to talk or swollow. Seriously?? Who does that??

To Stitched my gum to my cheek.. This Canadian guy is going thru this right now.I.ve had recurrent infection a couple times a year from a perforated sinus, when the upper teeth were extracted in 2011. recently, I had the oral surgery. to close the area properly . i WAS TOLD THE REASON FOR JOINING THE SKIN ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR CHEEK TO THE EXTRACTION SITE IS TO PROVIDE AN ADEQUATE BLOOD SUPPLY TO THE AREA. for healing . Hopefully when I have my numerous stitches taken out, the Surgeon will cut loose the inside of my cheek,so I can get my top denture back in. It's been very painful eating with my bottom teeth, and no upper denture. Hang in there .

I am really 'happy' to learn so many others have the same experience.. sort of got worried :s
I removed one wisdom tooth about 5 days ago; on the second day I noticed that my cheeck was stitched to my gum. aahh uncomfortable.. Also, i have a very deep cavity in the back - how am I ever gonna keep this clean?!
After I read your posts, I removed the stitch and it feels really weird - as if I have several cheeks flapping around! Hope I did not make things worse..
Need to go in to get the other one removed in a few months.. Not looking forward!
Thanks you all!

I agree with you. I just had all of my upper teeth pulled all eleven of them and this Dentist did sow my gum to my jaw, because he just punch a hole in my sinus cavity. I just wanted to know can I suit this dentist, because he did not tell me this until he finished all work and I was on my way being discharge. As for the sown jaw to gum, it was 5 days later, I couldn't take the pain anymore, so I had to go back to the dentist and they took xray and saw 2 stitches pulled tightly from my jaw to my gum just pulling. (ouch)! So they cut them off and all he could say, I'm sorry, I hope your mouth feels better now. I was so dare mad, I said thank you and left. Neverhtheless, I keep getting my left jaw swollen, especially when I try to lay down, Its pressure and its hurts. Now my frontage lobe of my head is tender. Do you think I should go ahead and get an attorney, because He really messed me and my mouth up. Its been almost 2 weeks now and my jaw still swollen and so is my gum, plus its hard to sleep because I can only sleep on my right side to keep some of the pain and swelling down on the left side. Man O Man I dream of getting new teeth and now I wished I would have kept the eleven I had in my mouth at the top. As of now, I think I was better off with that than to go through the pain I'm having today.
Also, now this happened I got to wait 2 months without top denture for the healing to take place. then he said if not healed by then he can't guaranteed me top denture. So people whomever is reading this, you might want to think twice before getting rid of your nature teeth for dentures, you just may never get a chance to get them, then you're out with nothing. Just you and your gums. So right now, there is no more smiling for me. "Do anyone know of a Lawyer who may want to take my case without paying the money. I am on disability". Even on disability I still want to smile and just think I thought having new teeth would have solved my facial problems. However, it only added to the problem by making it worst. Thanks for reading and have a blessed and joyous day, at least somebody's smiling.
