After having constipational issues for as long as I can remember, I've recently gotten ahold of a doctor that is heading me into the right direction.....I think. The problem really didn't bother me until it had been three and a half (going on four) weeks without a bowel movement. One emergency room trip later I was awaiting a doctor's visit to a GI specialist. After having a colonoscopy at the age of 18, I was prescribed a new medication called Amitiza. I thought things would be going fine and dandy along with a diet change of little to no insoluble fiber, high fiber, and high protein. I am a vegetarian, but my diet has been watching closely by both myself and my nutritionist. Aside from the food, I drink (on average) 8-10 glasses of water per day. However, things are not changing as planned and I am forced to give myself enimas every three to four days, because laxatives (such a Dulcalax) aren't even working. Now that my intestines are no longer used to not being "plugged up" for weeks at a time, when I am constipated for even four days, the pain feels unbearable. So much so that It hurts not only on my front half of my body, but my sides and internal organs around my back. Recently, I've had an issue with vomiting so much that I end up loosing stomache bile. This never seems to happen after a bowel movement, or even the day or two after. Only when I'm feeling constipated. Could the vomiting be due to a lack in space for the digested food to move?
Do they have any idea as to why this is occurring? Certain medications and diseases can be a cause.

Yes.

No, this round of tests are the first of any sort to try to figure out this issue. I don't have the slightest clue as to what it is, and they insisted on wasting my time by sending me to a nutritionist who told me I was doing everything I was supposed to correctly. I'm physically exhausted and quite frankly I'm beginning to think my doctors are as lost and confused as I am. Atleast I can tell them that the constipation is forcing me to throw up, now. Thank you for your answer!
I can understand the colonoscopy but from your description I would suspect the problem is higher up, small or large intestine. I'd be looking at a CT or MRI of your digestive system.
Look up "bowel obstruction." Your symptoms fit.
