thank goodness. this gives me such a relieve to know that many is out there with the same feeling!
well here's my story, im only 17 years old. I have a 8 month old son.
I take care of my responsibility on my own. with no help of parents!
and i now know how hard it is to care for a child. Anyway, i delievered in a csection.
I hardly have been sexually active because the pain was just sooo sore!
now that im fine and pain has gone away a little and started to become sexually active, i havent thought about the consequences of my actions.(UNprotected sex, using the pull out method, or condoms but when the sex is done found condom inside of me and not on the bf)
i get really paranoid and scared because i know that i cant handle another one. so ive been feeling baby movements but i had my period every month so far since i gave birth. i tend to tell myself that its nothing but probably gas. i actually kind of think my intestines are out of place. the movement appears to be below my button and under my button and above my belly button. it moves from the bottom up!
im sooo scared and as i seen all the replys on here has anybody found out what it COULD be?

I have thought I was pregnant for 3 months because of the sickness feeling off and on and late period, but i have had false pregnancy tests and my period always starts. Then the last 2 weeks I have felt movements like I have a baby in there moving around and I felt like I was really going crazy! So I found this post and it helped I looked this up and this really might help all of us.

PERISTALTIC WAVES

With intestinal obstruction, peristalsis temporarily increases in strength and frequency as the intestine contracts to force its contents past the obstruction. As a result, visible peristaltic waves may roll across the abdomen. Typically, these waves appear suddenly and vanish quickly because increased peristalsis overcomes the obstruction or the GI tract becomes atonic. Peristaltic waves are best detected by stooping at the patient's side and inspecting his abdominal contour while he's in a supine position.

Visible peristaltic waves may also reflect normal stomach and intestinal contractions in thin patients or in malnourished patients with abdominal muscle atrophy.
History and physical examination

After observing peristaltic waves, collect pertinent history data. Ask about a history of a pyloric ulcer, stomach cancer, or chronic gastritis, which can lead to pyloric obstruction. Also ask about conditions leading to intestinal obstruction, such as intestinal tumors or polyps, gallstones, chronic constipation, and a hernia. Has the patient had recent abdominal surgery? Obtain a complete drug history.

Determine if the patient has related symptoms. Spasmodic abdominal pain, for example, accompanies small-bowel obstruction, whereas colicky pain accompanies pyloric obstruction. Is the patient experiencing nausea and vomiting? If he has vomited, ask about the consistency, amount, and color of the vomitus. Lumpy vomitus may contain undigested food particles; green or brown vomitus may contain bile or fecal matter.

Next, with the patient in a supine position, inspect the abdomen for distention, surgical scars and adhesions, or visible loops of bowel. Auscultate for bowel sounds, noting high-pitched, tinkling sounds. Then jar the patient's bed (or roll the patient from side to side) and auscultate for a succussion splash—a splashing sound in the stomach from retained secretions due to pyloric obstruction. Palpate the abdomen for rigidity and tenderness, and percuss for tympany. Check the skin and mucous membranes for dryness and poor skin turgor, indicating dehydration. Take the patient's vital signs, noting especially tachycardia and hypotension, which indicate hypovolemia.

MEDICAL CAUSES

Large-bowel obstruction.Visible peristaltic waves in the upper abdomen are an early sign of large-bowelobstruction. Obstipation, however, may be the earliest finding. Other characteristic signs and symptoms develop more slowly than in small-bowel obstruction. These include nausea, colicky abdominal pain (milder than in small-bowel obstruction), gradual and eventually marked abdominal distention, and hyperactive
bowel sounds.

Pyloric obstruction. With pyloric obstruction, peristaltic waves may be detected in a swollen epigastrium or in the left upper quadrant, usually beginning near the left rib margin and rolling from left to right. Related findings include vague epigastric discomfort or colicky pain after eating, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and weight loss. Auscultation reveals a loud succussion splash.

Small-bowel obstruction.Early signs of mechanical obstruction of the small bowel include peristaltic waves rolling across the upper abdomen and intermittent, cramping periumbilical pain. Associated signs and symptoms include nausea, vomiting of bilious or, later, fecal material, and constipation; in partial obstruction, diarrhea may occur. Hyperactive bowel sounds and slight abdominal distention also occur early.

Boy was I glad to find this site. I have the rolling & what feels like kicking as well. But I also have pain in my lower stomach. I went to my gyn. She did all kinds of blood work, vaginal ultra sounds & pelvic exam. Everything came back fine except she said my uterus is a little enlarged which she also said is nothing to worry about. Even after going thru all that I have still take another home PG test......negative ofcourse.
Monday 10/12/09 I have an appt with a gastroenterologist. I am hoping there is some type of solution. I hate feeling like my stomach is blown up. sometimes it's so bad I feel like I can't breathe.

if anyone would like to keep in touch about this. We all seem to have the same symtoms.

Wow I'm not crazy! I have had two children in under a year and my son is now 7 months. I still feel movement in my tummy and I have this pain i get in my abdomen, sometimes in the center and sometimes on the right. I am so tired of people telling me it's my muscles going back. It's been 7 months! I have had two ultrasounds and so far everything is fine. I am going to demand to see a specialist because honestly my MD is really just a waste of time for the most part. It is to relieving to know that other people have experienced this and it's not all in my head. i hope it's nothing serious, I just want the pain to stop!

Hello all,
I am new to this forum and have read every last post on unusual abdominal movement. I have been experiencing the same symptoms as a lot of you. Sporadic movement just above my pubbic bone. I have actually had one hell of a day! I did a PT earlier today which was negative I got so freaked out that I rang the on call out of hours doctor earlier this evening. I am 36 year old mother of two aged 15 and 11. Both were sections and I like many others have an IUD for a few years now. I am shocked to see how many people are complaining of the same thing as well as an unsympathetic response from doctors. The doctor I spoke to on the phone laughed when I mentioned I was feeling movement. I also feel the urge to urinate much more frequently. I was particularly interested to read the post from the woman whose mother was told to reduce her caffene intake. I have been studying for exams lately and have been drinking more coffee than usual so am gonna try cutting out the caffene first to see if this makes a difference but im sure many of you have tried this. Althouigh feaky, Im not sure that it is anything serious. I have googled all about parasites and do not think that is what is wrong with me but am going to make an appointment with my GP tomorrow to see what he thinks. Good luck to everyone.

Just to follow up on my caffene theory I found this on a website about the side effects of caffene,Too much (overdose) of caffeine can give you all sorts of grief such as stomach pain agitation, anxiety, restlessness, confusion, seizures, dehydration, faster breathing rate, fast heartbeat, fever, frequent urination, increased sensitivity to touch or pain, irritability, muscle trembling or twitching, vomiting, sometimes with blood, fibrocystic breast disease, ringing or other sounds in ears, seeing flashes of “zig-zag” lights, and trouble in sleeping.

Hi annem,
High amount of caffeine in blood is not good. I drink coffee almost every day, but only one cup a day. For now I didn't have any problems that you have described, only sometimes I have stomach pain. And I am not sure that it could be from coffee. Do you think it could be?

I don't know whether to be relieved or terrified that so many of us have experienced this. I've been freaking out thinking I have an aneurysm but after reading realize my symptoms do not match it. Then I thought parasites, then again after reading realize my symptons do not match that either. As for gas, I had gastiritis as a child, its painful and you're bloated, I would know if I had gas.

I'm 40yrs old, mother of an 8 year old, hubby is fixed, and I've had regular periods, that have went from being 4 to 5 days to 3 days, with little clotting, I assumed that is part of perimenopause and Hell I'm not going to complain with less days being on my period. Used to bleed like a stuck pig on day 2, not having that problem for since August.

Anyhow on Christmas is when mine started, its not all the time, just here and there, doesn't go in rhythm with my heart, I'm thin on top and have always seen my arota move, very faintly, still see that, this movement has been from above my belly button to the bottom of my belly button. Very freaky.

I'm wondering if its stress, my father recently had a triple bypass, and just this month my child was diagnosed with type one diabetes. Wondering if its even worth my while to go to the doctor after all your experiences.

Another experience to add to list:

I'm 27 with no children and for the past couple of weeks have had sensations in my stomach that I can only imagine feel like early fetal movement - tiny flutters and thumps that occur at any time and in different places but mainly low down. Although I havent confirmed this with a HPT, I do not think I am pregnant since I have still had periods, (although with some irregularities) plus DP and I are very careful. Of course the possibility crosses my mind though, in fact at times I've been convinced I am or like others have mentioned, that its some sort of phantom pregnancy because we are waiting to try and I want it so much. I have gained weight going from size 8/10 - 12/14 over the past few months, my stomach looks bloated but not in a baby bump kind of way and feels 'full' and fluidy, apart from that everything else is fine. It is driving me mad wondering what is causing it, I saw my GP and he fobbed me off so I went for a second opinion and managed to get reffered for an abdominal scan in January, so we shall see what comes of that.

I have read all the posts on this thread so far and one thing I noticed is that a lot of the people experiencing similar symptoms have had some sort of abdominal surgery and scarring - I have a 5inch scar down from my navel from surgery I had 5 years ago and am wondering if there is a connection - could scar tissue effect the sensations of intestinal movement in some way, but then what would suddenly trigger it...?

I've no real answers but I'll be checking back until I get it sorted.

I am 16 years old and certainly not pregnant (not sexually active), but I have also been experiencing these strange rolling movements and abdomen pain. I only spoke of it to my chiropractor and a selected few friends. One of my friends simply didn't know what to make of it. All joked of pregnancy, making me need to remind them I was not sexually active. The chiropractor said he noticed air bubbles in my stomach (from a surgery I had over 15 months ago?) and said that might be the cause of it. In any case it is a very weird feeling. I haven't had my period in four months but irregularity is common in my family. Any ideas? %-)

I've been having this for about a month, and no babies for me yet. (Just in case anybody else out there child-less is reading this & think just becauase they don't have one they should keep on truckin').

It's this weird, very hard to explain sensation. Somthign froma rolling, thumping, tugging, pulsing thing! Usually mostly on my right side near my belly button. Sometimes it get's a bit higher.

It's so strange & I haven't an idea what it is but, I live on a military base & the doctors here are *c**p* unless you're pregnant they don't care about you. Not to mention, they have no idea what they're doing.

I'm kind of in the middle of getting transfers to other doctors but, it's still in the process with the insurance so it's taking awhile & there's no point going to ask them about it when they will either A) give me anti-depressants or B) fill a prescription with some pain killer. This is what they do for everything!

So if anybody actually goes to the doc - let us know please!!!

Ahhh I just read above about the abdominal surgery!

I had my appendix rupture & removed when I was about 17-18! It was very hard, I was in the hospital for 2 weeks because I had a terrible cough & kept stretching & tugging the stiching and inside. I was doped on morphine & couldn't remember a thing!!!

Also, me and DH are trying for baby, have been for almost 3 years now. I doubt it's a phantom pregnancy because I've had those some-what & never had this particular symptom. Plus, I don't think it owuld be that because since he was in a det eh was gone during ovulation so I knew there was no chance.

I have a blocked tube on my right side, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it? I also have PCOS, have been exercising & eating healthy. Also have hashimoto's

Like many of you, I too thought I was going crazy. Just today I felt it earlier and I just had enough and had to see what information I could find. Im not feeling so much of a rolling but it feels like a baby kicking for me.
Im 26 yrs old and have 2yr old twin boys, the 2nd one born was born through c-section. That is one thing I saw in common with some of the post with the fact that some women stated there child was brought into the world through c-section.
For me, before that I had never had any surgeries, problems, or these odd symptoms at all.
Just as I was reading through these post one thing did catch my attention. Someone posted something about gastric issues and my mother had some really bad pains due to gastric issues cause she has had about 6 surgeries due to colon cancer, where she ends up with hernias if she goes against Dr.'s orders and lifts things that are too heavy. In the situation with a Hernia they have to do surgery depending on how bad it is.
Well one day she had pains so bad she was throwing up, and all the pain was in her abdominal region. She went to the hospital and they informed her that it was due to a very large amount of gas stuck in a region of her intestines, and she soon found at the reason for it was due to eating popcorn once a during that whole week along with other stuff. Popcorn doesnt necessarily cause gas I think but it will help block up the intestines so what I think happened was she had some blockage in front of the gas and behind it and while it was stuck it gave her severe pain. Im sure they have a list you can find online, but the Dr gave her a list of specific foods that will cause either back up in the intestines or gas issues and she is too avoid them as much as possible so she doesnt risk feeling that bad pain again.

Once I put that all together I thought back for a moment...what was it that I ate today, and sure enough I remember I had some pico de gallo which is like a salsa mix of onions, tomatoes, cilantro and other ingredients, and sure enough onions is a big one when it comes to causing gas. So now that I kind of put two and two together maybe it may be gas, not that im saying dont go get checked anyways but if by chance your feeling it going on again, look up foods that cause gas or back-up issues and think back to what you ate and if one of those or several are on there it 'may' of been why. Hope that helps even though its still alarming specially when i know 100% I can not be pregnant but it sure feels just like it exactly, and ive bought dollar store pregnancy test, like 10 of them to have around so when im really feeling to anxious I check to make sure im clear from being pregnant.
