About 10 years ago I talked to my doctor about pain that I was experiencing in my tailbone area. He did a rectal exam and told me that it was stress related. What I don't understand is why it will start bothering me on days when I don't have a care in the world. I do believe that it is stress related because once the pain starts, I begin thinking about it and it gets considerably worse. How do I beat this? It has a large impact on how well I can do my job.
I am a 50 year old male with no history of trauma to the area.

Have you been x-rayed? I have a bone spur on my tailbone. It's odd because I have no injuries to the area and, well, it's a weird place to have a bone spur. It took several doctors to find it. So there is a problem, but I also know that it gets really bad when I'm stressed. And just like you, sometimes it happens on stress free days. If you can find a doctor to take an xray while you are seated, it might be helpful to find a physical issue if there is one present. Your post is a few years old, so I'm hoping you've found relief already.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll talk to my new Dr about it and see what he says.
