Hi Sandy,
My husband has been on sub for 1 year and he has been in bad shape for the past 3 months. He has become extremely depressed, terrible pains, confused, cant accomplish anything. the sub has put us in terrible financial distress and his doctor wont give him any more without paying the "fee". So 6 days ago my husband stopped cold turkey. I was really scared because he has tried to detox at home before and wound up getting drunk and getting drugs which start the insane cycle all over. This time we decided that we would try it at home. I had read one person who had successfully stopped cold turkey from 8mgs a day. He said the first 5 days were complet hell but he made it through. So we just got a lot of tylenol pm, and benedryl. Day 3 and 4 were really aweful but he just hung in there knowing that if he wanted i would take him to a hospital. He had wierd phases of sickness but by the end of day 5 he was feeling a little better. Today is day 6 and he has been able to sit on the sofa and watch tv and actually cracked a smile. I don't know if sub. withdrawl is fatal. I know its miserable but my husband has managed so far. His face looks like the man i married. Its amazing how drugged out he looked and acted all the time on sub. My hub. is a hard core 9 year pain killer junkie who has taken sub. for 1 year at 8 mgs. a day and he has successfully quit cold turkey. I really hope that this story helps.
