You already know that quitting smoking is an excellent choice to make for your health. During the first few weeks, you may experience some quitting related symptoms such as chest congestion. This is a good sign! The congestion indicates that your body is beginning to repair itself. Do your best to ride your symptoms out with the help of these home remedies. You'll be glad you did!
1=Consume garlic. It is true that garlic is nature's remedy for most cold related symptoms. That said, garlic can do a great deal to reduce any chest congestion you may endure while quitting smoking. Ingest the garlic in whatever way you desire. Repeat daily until symptoms pass.
2=Take Mucinex. If you don't have any aversion to a pill-based solution, Mucinex will significantly reduce any chest congestion you may suffer from. The medicine is non-drowsy and the side effects are minimal.
3=Buy a humidifier. To help ease symptoms of chest congestion while you sleep, consider purchasing a humidifier for your bedroom. Keep the filter clean and the humidifier will minimize the amount of congestion causing dust in the air.
4=Drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Drinking water will help your body to combat the congestion by thinning the mucus. Drinking orange juice and other juices will provide your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to combat the congestion as well.
5=Hot compress. Try heating up a washcloth with hot water and placing it on your chest. Leave it there until the washcloth cools off, and repeat. Doing this well help to relax the phlegm in your bronchial tubes, enabling your lungs to more easily expel it.

It's called going through withdrawls. I did the same thing and the doctors told me that it was that, but I'm not really sure just hang in there and if it keeps up then you may need to see a doctor. It could be your lungs are purifying. Congrats on quiting and continue not to smoke. Trust me I know I'm still half young and on oxygen and nebulizer an inhalers through the day. It's no fun.

I quit smoking 24 days ago after several years of smoking.. I do smoke the ecig and have had great success with it. Are any of you using an aid or did you quit cold turkey?? I had severe chest pains twice this week at night.. but at the same time suffering from a bad cold. I will continue to use the ecig and gradually reduce the nicotine and be completely done. I did as a precautionary measure go to the doctor and had some tests to make sure it wasn't a heart attack.. still waiting on results. Congrats to all of us to taking this step!!

Listen Guys you've all made the wise and educated choice of quitting smoking so congratulations. Stopping a habit like smoking unfortunately causes side effects everyone's different from Insomnia, Chest Pains, Mood Swings, increased appetite and headaches to name a few. My main side effect is a chest infection and I can see a lot of you are concerned about pains in the lungs. Fear not my new health freaks - it's normal ! When you abuse your body with the toxins from cigarettes the hairs in your respiratory system stop working these hairs are vital for clearing out the bodies unwanted toxins now when you stop smoking the respiratory system goes through double the workload clearing out all the tar so lung pain is normal especially as passages previously blocked with tar are suddenly being opened and the hairs in your chest start to work again so pushing up all the unwanted tar and mucus. You may be coughing up black, green or yellow substance which again is a good sign - better out then In I say and to think all that was sitting in your lungs YUCK. As for headaches that's normal too your brain has had it's oxygen levels rapidly increased due to the clearance of passages in your lungs all side effects regardless of what they are remembering everyone's different last up to 6months. If you are still unwell after then start to consult doctors. Do not worry my friends side effects aches and pains are normal it's just the body healing itself from your once disgusting habit stay strong and enjoy the new healthier you ! Oh and weight gain is common too up to 10lbs in 6months maybe 20lbs max an incentive to get even healthier and fitter by joining the Gym isn't this GREAT ! Good luck friends x

After 40 years of smoking, I guess should expect some kind of discomfort besides losing my best friend (not really a very good friend). This the 2nd time I've quit and feel good about it this time. However, I have been experiencing severe chest pains. They have since eased up from about 3 days ago (that was the worst) I though I was having a heart attack and went to the Dr.s immediately. The Dr couldn't find anything i.e. EKG normal, chest xray normal. None theless, still experiencing some chest discomfort. Hopefully, it will ease up alittle more each day and eventually will feel no pain at all. That's the goal.....

I get the same thing too
If you ask me it's your body trying to get back in gear... a withdrawal... your lungs, veins etc constrict or something when you smoke... the blood is flowing agian... pushing it's way... of course this is a guess.
cigarettes are full of chemicals and your body needs to filter them out... that is my guess... i'll keep looking into it/... but no more frigging smokes! they piss me off at this point.
