Danm you have just described me (apart from the pot) I have health anixety and I was caught in a visous cycle... felt bad have a cigerette. ..until I was smoking 30 a day!!! Which was making my anxiety go through the roof. I quit 3 days ago and already I can feel an ease in my breathing but an intermittent annoying chest pain!! I am sure everyone that this is just our bodies healing don't worry!!! Next step for me ... loose weight!!!
I have just stopped smoking 28 hours ago and I have smoked for over 30 years. I do use the vapor cig. with NO nicotine and I and now have chest pains on the left side is this normal? It is scaring me alittle as I am 50yrs. I quit for a year and then started again last year I was in the hospital and had a stress test done without the dye and everything was ok then. Since then I started smoking again and now I have quit again.
Hey buddy, I have been cigarette free for 36 hours now and proud of it. Im 21 and Iv only smoked for 3 years but none of the less have stated to feel the effects of smoking. So I slowly brought my cigarette intake down every day of the week. Till I was only smoking 1 a day. By the time I was only smoking 2 cigarettes a day I could feel my chest hurting and spreading around my chest. So I have learn a lot of valuable information about the transaction of quiting from doctors and research. First of all if you are ever concerned to the point you are freaking yourself out, go to the doctor. They can always help even if it's a little. Now down to learning!! Chest pain is normal, I have found the longer you have smoked the more it hurts. The reason it hurts is because your lungs start the healing process right away by bringing the filter strings (forgot scientific term) in your lungs back to life then they start their job of removing the tar. This is why you feel this discomfort in the chest. The discomfort can vary in many ways it can be a burning feeling, a sharp pain, tighten chest to tingly feeling. Now on top of that it can spread to your back, shoulder, ribs, and arm. Very similar to a heart attack. There is a possible way to tell the difference. If you notice the pain coming and going randomly in different spots this is a good sign that your lungs are doing its job, because you lungs are healing and expand and your body is adjusting it's self. Now a bad sign is if the pain is not coming and going. If the pain is not going away after long periods of time and traveling I would see a doctor asap. Okay now that is out of the way othere side effects from quiting smoking is shortness of breath, mood swings, craving, coughing up brown or grey or yellow mucus. If you cough up blood go to the hospital right away. Other symptoms is headaches, sore throat, dizziness . So a lot of different things happen to your body. But did you know the benefits of quiting smoking start after 20 minutes after quiting. Okay so let's talk about how long this chest pain can last. It varies from how long you have smoke to how much a day but no matter what you can clean your lungs but don't you expect it to be easy. Now it can take 9 months to years to clean lungs. There are ways to speed up this process by excise, steam showers, deep breathing excise. There are a few house remedys that help but not going in detail with that. If you dont feel the pain lightin up in 6 months see a doctor for check up. Honestly after your done quiting it would be best to just to do a check up because there are crazy hazards to smoking. Quiting smoking effects the body in weird way because the chemicals have altered our body and our body is fixing what we have done to it. The human body is amazing. It's hard guys, so stick it though. Because it is worth it in the long run. If any one needs more details ask because I know much more. Good luck everyone and remember I'm not a doctor.
you need to read Alan Carr's easy way to stop smoking book. the way you say ..ok a few drags..sounds like you would benefit from understanding how the physical and psychological aspects of addiction work together/interact.. That book was the biggest help for me stopping, and for several people i know as well..
I am 28 I started smoking at 13 I was on 60 + a day for the past 4 years and the pain I am getting in my left shoulder and in my lung is that to do with me stopping smoking and I also ha my right thyroid removed so could that have anything to do with it
Omg you are exactly the same as me! I'm 18 and I recently just quit pot and cigs as I had been smoking since I was 13. I have been feeling tightness and sharp pains in my left chest and under my left armpit. How long did it take for your pain to go away?
The pain you are feeling is your body going through withdraws. Your lungs are starting to rebuild themselves. Also, you are now using more of your lungs when you breath. It is basically like sore muscles after working out. Remember, it was great to breath smoke, but better to breathe because you are living longer and better. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!
Remember....you have been smoking for years and years. It will take your body some time to recalibraread itself and heal. You can do this!!! Smoking might have been your best friend, but it was trying to kill you the whole time. Death by chocolate seems so much better
I have exactly the same pain being described. I have been a many years pack a day- ultra light cigarettes. After about 1 month, I got extreme pain in the left side (heart) and through my lung to my back. Also my left shoulder and under my arm. This happens every time I try to quit, but I get concerned as to whether it is damaging my heart in any way. I smoke and I feel better. I have come to my own conclusions. I believe it is not nicotine withdrawal as I am wearing a patch and ultra light cigs don't have a lot of nicotine. I believe this to be from the chemicals that are put in the cigs. I believe it is a severe chemical withdrawal.
Have not had a smoke for 3 days, started with squeezing chest pain. Scary. Dr diagnosed me with depression. Glad for this discussion, glad I never took his happy pills he wanted me to take.
