It is interesting that someone else mentioned paint....
I have the same symptoms, and i have been trying to figure out what it was.
all of the online diagnosis websites have, of course, done nothing but ensure me that i have a severe case of hypochondria. I figure if it is not any of those severe cases, such as lupus, leukemia, brain tumor, w/e, it must be an allergic reaction, or stress.
true, stress is an issue in my life- i am a college student, but i was just as stressed last semester, and did not have this at all.
i recently moved to a new apartment.
nothing has changed in my diet, and i have never had any food allergies. I knew it must be something with the apartment, i thought it could be the water- but i have been living with philadelphia water for two years now, and unless it was an issue with the piping in this house that was not the problem.
but when reading this, i think i figured it out-
When i first moved in they were painting the hallway. the circulation of the hallway must not be that great, because it still smells like paint when i walk through it. I am tempted to ask them what kind of paint it is that they used to paint that hallway.
This situation is extremely irritating, as all of you probably already know.

In answer to your question. Just to let you know I have very similar systoms to you and I found out why I had itching and inshallah will be in the road of recovery soon...

i used to read most of these forums, in the hope that someone would find out at least why they were itching. Everywhere I seemed to look at, everyone did not know why they were itching!

I would firstly like to say I totally understand the pain and annoyance that you are going through. It drives me crazy! It makes you even more crazy when you do not know why you are itching all over without a rash! I used to mainly get it at night in my hands and feet. But later spread all over.

I thought I was lucky that I was on private healthcare and decided to take steps to finding out why I had this. My quest started last year. I went to a local private dermotologist and he was NOT very useful at all. He asked me to go on anti hestimines. At that point the itching was not that bad so I was like well can I find out why I am itching first? He was like ok well if you insist we can get some blood samples. Which he did and came back negative. I then asked him again to help me as my itching was not even going by using antihistimine and he said ok I refer you to an allergy specialist.

I saw her twice and from her seeing her we learnt nothing! I was not allergic to anything that would cause sever itching that I had.

I did not want to go back to the old dermotologist, so I did some reasearch and decided to go to the dermotogloy centre in London and I booked an appointment with Dr Sunil Chupra, the clinical director.

The first thing I noticed from our first meeting, was that he cared and showed that he wanted to deal with your problem. For him it was like a puzzle and he was going to try and fix it.

He sent me for some routine blood tests, however found out that Iron was very low and IGE & white blood cells were very high. This showed that my body was fighting something and I was not going crazy!!

He then put me on a drug called neoral (or similar spelling, can't rememebr) which he said would decrease my white blood cells and IGE as he thinks they were being overactive for no reason which was causing my itch problem.

Within a few days I started to feel ill and a pretty little lump formed at the bottom of my neck. I went back to see him, firstly to advise his medicine did not help at all with my itching, but he was more interested in the lump in my neck. He sent me for an immediate Xray and CT scan. From both of these you can see there was growth around my neck and chest of "something" and the CT scan showed this too.

I didn't know how to react, wheather to be relieved as in MAYBE my itching problem that has been ruining the quality of my life has now been given a reason or this was just another road to failure.

The next day my doctor asked me to come in again and he went over my CT scan. Unfortunately the news was not what I expected....he advised that I had lymphoma/ Hodgkin's disease. I was very shocked and it seems unreal.

Here I am now a 1 week after this knowledge. I have had a biopsy done to confirm hat I have this disease and also have had a bone marrow sample taken today to see the spread of this disease. I hope to get better soon and if any of you are reading this message then please also pray for me.

My main purpose of my post was for me to tell my experiences that I went through and that if someone else out there has unexplained generalized itching without a rash and they have tried nearly everything and it does not work. Then DO NOT waste time, ask your doctor for a chest X-ray an CT scan. As Lymphoma is common among people in the 20's and not that many people are told that generalizing itching is a side effect of Hodgkin's lymphoma.

So spread the news!! Save people if you can!

It started last year. First itching on my ankle. two days later a traveling itch down the middle of my foot to my toes at nght. Six months later to my hands would itch with the same pattern as my feet. Newsprint and sudden stress will start it without a doubt. My MD told me she didn't know why. But, I continue to take the Allegra with some success. When it happens I try to relax and think of something pleasant. It helps.

This problem is driving me crazy. It first started in hands with a dull, numbing, itchy feeling. In one week my hands and palms are covered with bumps. I just noticed that my feet are the same way. I am a teacher and I use gloves for everything, I might have an allergy on my hands(make sense), but my feet???? It feels worse when my stress level rises, a itchy tingly feeling shoots through my hands and feet. I have no idea what to do...liver dysfuntion, lupus, allergies, stress...WHAT!!!!! o.O

I had itchy hands and feet about 4 yrs ago but was accompanied by severe joint pain esp. knees. I'm sure it was fifths disease (usually minor childhood illness) but can be more severe in adults worse for females, something to do with hormones. I did have the lacey rash on my arms then. 2 days ago my hands and feet start itching again but no rash. Look up fifths disease. I think I took some prednisone then to help but also motrin.

I started out in July 2007 with what looked like bug bites on my forearms and hands. Now almost a year later I get it all over my hands and now my feet and lower legs. They itch like CRAZY but at night I cannot even sleep due to the itching. Benadryl was helping me sleep but I think I am getting resistant to it. The doctors each come up with their own diagnosis but nothing works. I have to pay out of pocket so if anyone is doing research on this contact me at _[removed]_ as I would love to be in a study to help get some of this paid for and find a cure.

Like all of you I have had EXTREMELY itchy feet and hands for about 2 weeks now. The doctor prescribed sorbeline/glycerine cream and diprosone ointment - all to no avail. The only way I get relief from the itch is to put my hands and feet under very hot water. The burning sensation makes the itch go away temporarily.

Wow, I never knew itching hands and feet could be so common. I really noticed mine last night. What a night of no sleep. I also am very paranoid that it could be from refilling the bird feeder yesterday. Ever since I heard about that poor woman being removed from her home in a hazmet suit, I am really nervous!

If you have bird nests, etc around you and you are experiencing the itching - check this out. www.birdmites.org Hope that does NOT apply to anyone here.

I have had a change in some prescriiption medication. The doctor increased the dosage. One of the "rare" side effects is itching and skin rashes. I hope that is the problem because it's an easy fix.

Good luck to all of us!!

I spent a sleepless night of itching hands and feet, sides of abdomen, legs, etc. Mostly the itching hands were the worst!

I couldn't take it any longer and went to emergency last night. HIVES. The hands had no welts or anything just itch itch itch palms and tops. They were the worst. This was also accompanied by a wringing type of stomach pangs.

After a shot of benadryl and steroid I slept soundly. Still a little residual itching today but I know have the will to live once again. That was horrible.

Apparently, the hives came from an increased dosage of medication and much stress about upcoming surgery. I never want to experience this again. i really feel for people who have chronic itching / hives.

I saw one of the comments about the itchy feet and hands i have the same thing and it is mostly when i am am sleeping that the balls of my feet itch so bad, i have no redness or blisters or scaling it feels like its coming from inside any suggestions

WOW i just thought hey maybe someone else experiences this itchy feet and hands issue (mine ONLY happens at night usually when going to bed) so I googled it and ended up here. I feel better knowing that I am not the only one to have this but no one has been able to shed much light on it.

I am 39, healthy and havent changed my diet or anything....when it happens the entire surface of my hands itch and kind of burn. I end up itching and wringing my hands. I cant even stop. The only suggestion I have that helps a little is to wash your hands with no soap when they itch in COLD COLD water ....even leave them under the cold for a bit. It takes it down a few notches. Sometimes it happens to my feet and lower legs but mainly my hands with regularity. Aveeno anti itch lotion is sometimes helpful a little too ....but doesnt completely correct it.

If someone ever comes up with an answer as to the cause and why only at night ....I will be sooooo appreciative! Even if someone comes up with a solution that would be wonderful!

My hands started itching about a week ago just as described by scarylarryx. I have been trying different steroid creams, vinegar and moisturizers with some relief.
I have been building a deck with treated lumber during the past few weekends and wonder if exposure to the chemicals in the wood may have started this intense itching. There are no surface bumps or any noticeable skin damage just intense itching.
