See another doctor for second opinion. I get feelings that are still are to put in words.
I just had my thyroid removed a week ago and thanks to your post, I now understand what I'm feeling.
I am Nexium 40mg and it helps heaps with the symtoms
Hello im two weeks post op from a total thyroidectomy do to papilary cancer and i have some issues with the site itself there is a thickness across the entire scar and i still have a scratchy throat off and on and i have this one spot that feels like a very deep bruse dose all this sound normal?
What Symtoms for nexium.
That sounds strange. Go back and ask doctor why.
I know this is an older post, but did you ever get this resolved? I have recently had a thyroid lobectomy and after the initial surgery, my skin appears to have attached to the strap muscles, so when I swallow it pulls on my. I can see skin movement of the skin half way down to my sternum when I swallow, and it has severely reduced my vocal range when singing. My ENY followed up by trying to locate and surgically detach the attachment points, the first attempt failed to make any real difference - I just had a second scar revision surgery, they resected much of the scar tissue, and while it's much better this time, it still has attachment points and still pulls my skin when I swallow.
Hoping you found resolution, if so what was it? Cosmetic surgery?

Ok, couple of typos... why don't you see them when you are typing them??? :P

I don't know if Seadog is still following this thread but I had my thyroid removed 6 weeks ago & saw the dr last week for a follow up. What you described is exactly what I'm having, I feel like something is pulling and attached internally. The dr. did tell me that there is a chance, because I'm so thin & little fat, that the incision could have attached to the muscle during the healing, which totally sucks. He suggested massaging it but my incision is still tender on the left side. When I swallow you definitely see the muscle pull up and it's worse when my neck is stretched rather than looking down. He has offered to fix it but I have a cervical surgery that I now have to do with a much longer recovery time plus the thought of 3 surgeries now in 1 year makes me sick. Did yours ever get better, what did you do??? If by October/November this is still bothering me with no improvements I will have to consider having the incision opened up & detach the muscle with hopes of it not doing the same thing.
I had the same thing happen from my thyroidectomy in March 2012. It is from scarring on the inside. Another surgery would pose the same risk anyway so not the best choice since you can't control where or how scar tissue adheres. I went to someone who could work with the fascia with massage and the scar tissue did release some. It still pulls a little but not nearly as much, and it's not something that is as noticeable now. I don't even think about it very much anymore at all. I was told to do the mayo-fascial and faucial massage work as soon as possible so I went about 4 times after my surgery. Hope this helps.
I have this as well, 4 months post op. Very anxiety producing. Have you had any resolve?
How r u feeling now? I had surgery on May 9th of this year. I have the same symptoms, choking, lump in my throat, gagging, nausea. Did you find a doctor to help you? My surgeon dismissed my complaints. She didn't know why I was feeling that way and didn't seem to care much. I am going to a gastro doctor next week.
Since I've had my thyroid out been healthy as. Everything went well. Medication all sorted to. I was overactive. I stick to one gp to look after my levels and medication
Use bio oil to soften the scar tissue I also use 50+ sun screen for scars n damaged skin, my sister told me about these and you can hardly see her scar now. I'm 4 weeks in and still have the lump sensation
I had my thyroidectomy 10 weeks ago. I'm experiencing the same thing you described. I have a lump along my scar and it pulls upward when swallowing. I went back to my surgeon 3 weeks ago to find out why this happened. He was surprised I had this problem and told me to take 7 days ibuprofen and not to massage the scar till it gets better. The med didn't help at all. It feels like the scar is tightly attached to muscle or something underneath. I'm desperately looking for solutions. Is your condition improved now?
