I could suggest a couple things. Your doc was probably right about the ingrown hair however, the location could pose a problem for healing. As sweat and so forth clog pores and won't allow for healing, could you find a way to cover the area during the day when you are most active and uncover it at night to allow it air? Swabbing the area with iodine before applying a bandage will aid in drying it out. Washing the area fequently with a hibitane soap (most drug stores) will disinfect and also dry it out. Polysporin cream also has a form of antibiotic and cleans. Or you may wish to visit your local emergency department where they are likely able to give you a prescription cream to assisit in healing and counter infection. Hope this helps.

This sounds a lot like MRSA. I've had MRSA a few times, including under the armpit. It is VERY painful. It is very contagious, once you get it for the first time, you have it for life. The bacteria lives in your nose. I've gotten MRSA a few times in the same spot in my armpit before too. It's always hard underneath. Next time you get something like that, show your doctor. He will probably put you on antibiotics and tell you to use a heating pad. If its really bad, it will need to get lanced, i've had to have that done a few times. MRSA is very dangerous though, it can be deadly, don't just assume it is an ingrown hair all the time, please see a doctor!
