NO WAY.... As i'm reading this i've been amazed at the similarities of my symptoms and the symptoms being described here... But this is downright bizarre: "I have the symptoms described and also have recently lost a piece of a filling...it has been about two months.... I am wondering if this is caused by exposure to the filling????" I've had a cracked filling for a while and recently lost it completely, at which point the thing with my eyes seemed to get worse... Now i'm really starting to wonder.

Please let me know if your symptoms were alleviated given the treatments
that you were given.
I too am a thin woman and have been experiencing the identical symptoms. It's hard for me not to sleep on my stomach. I am tired of looking like somebody punched me in both eyes.

I developed Graves disease after having Ovarian Cancer, chemo etc and went into thyroid toxic storm. ( 6 months ago)My endrinocologist finally decided I needed Radioactive Iodine treatment ( apart from everything else my eyes were VERY puffy and swollen). Four weeks ago I had the treatment and now my eyes are worse than ever and SO very painful. I have tried lots of things as some have mentioned here but the ones that have worked a little are ........ propping the top of my bed up about 3 inches under the base and using two pillows so my head is not flat at night ( the puffiness is so bad in the mornings I cannot open my eyes) cucumber slices cooled in the refrigerator and also TRANQUILEYES WATERS for puffy eyes bought on the internet ( that really soothes them) I have stopped using any oil based creams or lotions around my eyes and use IN A WINK moisturising eye drops. I avoid makeup around my eyes but have just bought some ALMAY hypoallergenic make up to try - just to get rid of the dark circles that are now appearing. To top it off, the last week I have had double vision in one eye ( one is worse than the other) so back to my endrocrinologist who put my back on predisolone - see him again next week. So far can see a difference and definately not as painful with the combination of all above. I am going to ask to be referred to an eye specialist who deals with thyroid conditions.

Suggest that anyone with similar problems gets their thyroid checked as this seems to be the basis of my problems. Good luck everyone - it certainly is SO very depressing - to me, worse than the chemo!

Hi all,

I was reading this as research to help my dad who had this swollen and itchy eyelids condition for a month, I really hope some of the guys here who have been suffering for months get well soon.

My dad is still not sure what the cause is he is 90 years of age, but the last doctor he went to prescribed doxycycline (a long term small does antibiotic) and it seems to slowly help his condition, he is also taking eye drops that alleviate itching. Also he noticed that one day he went back out into the garden for some gardening and this condition seems to flare up again, so it could be bacteria from the soil or an allergy to bacteria from the outside that causes this.

wish you all the best

Mac

Just an update - the cortisone worked but now I have to go off it for a trial - fingers crossed! The Almay makeup also did not worry my eyes so I am using that and also their "wake up under eye concealer" for those "special" days. Still using the tranquilwaters which am sure is really doing something. I was hyper now hypo - having trial period off everything hmmm Good luck

Yes! Out of desperation I also used unfiltered, local honey on my poor swollen eyes and it really helped! It makes it difficult to go anywhere. I also think that tuna may be the cause because I eat a lot of tuna.

Take a USED tea bag and put it in the fridge for 30 min then place the bag over your eye for 15 minutes, place back in the fridge and repeat a few times a day should clear up shortly!

I have the same exact problem!!! Please keep me informed as to what the ENT says. I would so appreciate it. By the way what is an ENT and what do they specialize in?
My name is Kim and have been treated for this with antibiotics and steriods only to have it return. I hope you find an answer and get better!!

I have the swelling, as well, under my right eye. I had went to a dermatologist and he gave me a steroid shot which helped for just 1 week and then it came back. Looks like a little bag under my eye and is kind of painful. I try ice and heat, which kind of relieves it, but doesn't make the redness and bag go away. It is very annoying. I do not feel like I have any sinus issues going on. I am going to try Allegra and see if that will help.

Its the RAI 131 that destroys your thyroid and causes the thyroid eye disease. Doctors are to quick to want to do this treatment and dont tell you all the side effects and adverse problems with your eyes. Mine are worst now and this has completely ruined my life. I cannot work and daily it is a struggle to cope with my eye disease and now hypo and metabolism is messed up and effects every organ in your body! Cannot find a doctor to treat my symptoms and recieve optimal treatment. Its a circus! I have totally given up. I so wish that I had not listened to the original doctor who diagnoised Graves' Disease and do the RAI. I could have tried the anti-thyroid drugs or waited to see if things would have changed as stress brings on this disease. Good luck to all who are dealing with this terrible disease. If you have no insurance or funds to pay for the high dollar tests you have no option but to suffer.

Hi Ellymae, I have not been in this site for many months, mainly because of the problems I am still having and just really did not want to magnify them by reading others comments as so distressed. However, here I am back again! I agree with all that you say! After an incredible time with my eyes and being placed on steriods on and off I am no better. The steriods helped short term but created insomnia and weight gain. After being on and off the steriods for over six months nothing has improved and then I began to have blood pressure issues - very high then very low - so medications were confinually being adjusted. Then I was told the that RAI treatment had not worked and I would have to have my thyroid surgically removed. Finally in desperation I asked my GP to be referred to another endocrinologist for an opinion. I have only just been to her and she has adjusted my medication yet again with good results regarding my blood pressure but now really bad issues again with my eyes. I am reluctant to go back on the steriods ( prednisolone ) due to the side affects of this drug. I have more faith in this new specialist and she is going to confer with other specialists before recommending what to do next. For anyone reading this - please get a few opinions before going ahead with the RAI - I certainly would NOT go there again as it looks like it has not worked and I have to face surgery anyway and I still have the issues with my eyes. Will try to get back in here again soon and let you know how I am going and what they are suggesting next. Good luck and best wishes to anyone having these issues - they really are most distressing. And yes, Ellymae - the COST is a big factor too! Good luck.
