Thank you so much for your post. It sounds like you're writing about me except I've been suffering with this for the past 2 and a half years. I thought it was my eczema. I have such a bad case right now that I been online every night reading everything I can find about puffy eyes and eczema hoping I would stumble onto something that would help me. I've given up on dermatolagist years ago. I just dug out my son swim goggles today to give this a try. It sounds the most promising and it explains why I look the worst each morning. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! Terrie

I'm EXACTLY in your same situation. This all started January of 2012....seemingly out of nowhere. Went to multiple allergists, opthamologists...then told to get an apt with the guru of contact dermatitis at Ohio State who specializes in this and does the most extensive patch testing there is. And it was. more extensive than any of the other allergists I had gone to but all felt he was "the guy". I went. I even brought my iPhone containing multiple pictures taken when they were at their worst and how bad it gets and these bumps that now have developed. Extensive patch testing showed nothing except maybe a sensitivity to shellac...which is often not listed in cosmetic mascara's and eyeliners. Told to only wash with California Baby Bodywash/Shampoo, use Cera Ve moisturizer, and given a tube of very low dose steroid cream that was ok to use "as needed"....I had already stopped all makeup fearing must be the culprit since limited to eyelids...After no change I called DR again, talked to nurse practitioner, told to come back in...I did, reinstructed to continue the same original instructions and use the EWG cosmetic database and purchase only products that indicate no allergy causing ingredients or a grade of "1" or lower....found cosmetics "costal creations" for mascara...and a few other things. So doing all they suggested....bottom line.....I'm still the same, flares off and I'm never what I'd call "back to baseline before it began"...and if I get too bad and I've got to go someplace special and I'm looking horrid my internist has given me a prescription for prednisone that I will take and taper down, just to abate it for relief so I'm not swollen and itchy and halfway normal looking to attend. I've used every recommended laundry detergent suggested to remove every possible missed allergen, I have more pillows I could open a bedding store trying to find if that was the issue......detoxed my house and we use no harsh chemicals...improved diet, took up yoga.....I could write a book on my quest for a solution....I've even entertained the concept that perhaps I have developed an allergic reaction that manifests in my eyelids from computer keyboard as that's also something that has seemed to become a real issue with those who work on computers a lot. Some European physicians even believe there is computer screen dermatitis with some case studies to back up that feed the emission from computer screen even may be the culprit as it's a cumulative effect from computers and from our now big screen TV's we all sit in front of. Not that I have any clue if any of this is real or not, I just know my situation is no better, my eyelids which were once normal or better than normal for my age (in regards to elasticity and wrinkling) are now older looking than my age. I can't stand pictures taken of me...feels like my eyes make me look as old and as depressed as I feel as this can get me down. Sometimes they itch so bad I just can't stand it and want to scream (and have). Crying just really aggravates them..the tears burn like heck. I have a pharmacy of OTC, prescription creams, even latest and greatest eczema creams (thank god I have awesome insurance) thinking if this is all atopic derm, maybe this will be my miracle cure. omg....it made them go wild. I don't get it.
Please, if you get any solution, fix, cure, miracle...or find anything that helps, please let me know...I can so relate!!

Same issue going on with my eyes. I went to the Dr. last week and was prescribed antibiotics and prednisone. I believe this is obviously a reaction to those medications. The question is how much time is it going to take to heal. I have never had wrinkles or bags under my eyes and now I look like I have aged a bout 10 years. How depressing! I where I make up daily and now I cannot put anything on my face.

Stop eating processed foods. Buy organic. Allergies will go away in a few days. GMO's wreak havoc on your body, take them out of your diet.

I am really confused ! I am 13 and have just started getting my period, every (time of the month) my eye goes absolutely crazy. The eyebag area swells like there is no tomorrow. My eye is so so irritated and nobody knows what it is!? The worst part is that this happens every single time I get my period, I mean i cant focus, Im irratable. Its terrible. The worst part is that i swelled up in front of my whole grade and the school nurse was thinking about sending me to hospital. Im not allergic to anything although it might be worth while taking an allergy test? I am almost positive it is "Periobital Puffiness". The picture of the man's very swollen eye is what mine looks like although not on the eyelid just the eyebag area, and I am almost certain that mine is caused by hormonal fluxuations, or basically my period. Any thoughts, how do I stop this !!

I think this is my problem too,I went to a restaurant and order a steak but I believe it was contaminated with seafood because I have the worst case of swollen eyes and itchy face I have taken Benadryl on a daily basis along with steroids. I have no results I am watching what I eat I know I'm allergic to shell fish so I stay away from that but the restaurants don't care. They do cross contamination even if you tell them you have food allergies. This was very helpful I just have to prepare my food at home. Thank you

I have had the same problem off and in for about 7 years. I have been to dermatologists, allergists, and rhumotologists. Everyone says it is a contact dermatitis. I think it is related to my hormones. I have to use seroid creams to make it go away. It is horrible. If you find an answer please let me know.

Sounds like an allergic reaction. Your situation sounds exactly like mine. Saw a doctor, got a shot today, and he told me I will be better in a day, not yet better after 12 hours, so on the net...

How long did it take for your swelling to go down AFTER starting the prednisone?

I had this just over two years ago, was mis- diagnosed and desperate I spent a fortune on pricey cosmetics, skin cream, allergy drops, new bedding and more.
By chance I changed my contraception from mini pill to mirena coil and within 48hours it disappeared completely.
I've since found that hormonal imbalances can play a huge factor so please investigate that as it hasn't been back since!
