My son was circumsised at 6months old. I took him to a new doctor for his 18 month check up and the doctor said that the skin had grown up to far that a ridge was supposed to be visible around the head. So he pulled the skin back to the point of the ridge and made my baby scream and bleed very badly. When I asked what he was doing and why he was doing it he said it had to be done. The area didn't heal for over a week and now there is a blackish bruise looking ring around the head and the tip has extra skin around his pee hole. I have called several doctors but am not getting an answers to my questions and urgent care will not see him because the say it isn't an emergency.

I would be grateful for any advice that can be provided as I am a first time mom without family to turn to for guidence.

Thankyou

Hi New mom,

Find yourself a new pediatrician.

Not all circumcisions are the same.  Some are cut higher than others.  In effect, even though your son was circumcised it can still cover part of the glans.  Without an exam, I can't say as to if what was done was necessary or if it was necessary at such an early age.  If he wasn't circumcised, it would be normal for his foreskin not to retract up to about 16 or so.

Again, uncircumcised, the foreskin should never be forcibly pulled back.

Even if there was a problem, he could have used a topical anesthetic to reduce the discomfort.  He unnecessarily caused your son discomfort.  In my book he wouldn't be my son's doctor any longer.

Unfortunately, some doctors think they know everything.
