I have the same problem too sometimes, though not as often as previous years. I'm pregnanny now and my hormones have done silly things, but when keeping in routine with these few things i tend to stay pretty darn comfortable. :-) However, it's fairly normal to have dry skin in some areas and there are fairly easy solutions to making this uncomfortable experience quite comfortable.

1: If you like to take hot showers or really cold showers, don't expose your breasts to the water. Hot water might dry them out more, cold water might make them hard and irritated. Even if this doesn't happen, I'm 99% sure it would make your experience more comfortable of when you showered to simply turn your back to the water while you wash your chest area. This also means avoiding loofas/sponges/wash cloths on your nipple area because this rubs and can chafe them more. If you use soap on your nipples or breasts make sure it has a damn good moisturizer in it. MosT soaps will Contribute to nipple dryness of they contain a LARGE amount of sulfates and fragrances and alcohols. Summary: Low exposure to hot /very cold water, low exposure to soaps and rubbing.

2: Be comfortable. Make sure your brazier fits correctly. Mine would always be to large in the shoulder where it connects to the back hooks; more often than not I would end up knotting the extra length or sewing it. Otherwise, the cup would be the right size but because of too long shoulder string it would move and chafe me. So make sure your bra is snugly completely comfortable. If you don't wear a bra then be sure whatever fabric you wear is a soft fabric. When I say soft I literally mean soft. So soft that if you have extremely dry hands and you rub this fabric against yore hand and no Fibre comes off, this is probably a good idea for you. Avoid net fabrics and wools and other rough fabric. Also, tight fitting undershirts may help as well considering they fit snugly for you and therefore won't chafe and irritate your lady pieces. Summary: Avoid rubby fabric and be comfortable and snug.

3: This is probably most valuable...
If you have dry skin on your nipple and trend to pick it off BE CAREFUL NOT TO GRAB THE SKIN THAT ISN'T DRY. anyway, here goes... Moisturize. Moisturize. MoisturIze!!! When you wake up, when you go to sleep, or whenever you remember, do it. Especially after a bath or shower, and if you pick off dry skin, moisturize before you do it and let it soak. It will make it easier and less painful. When anyone moisturizes be sure to be generous. Mineral oil, mustard oil, Vaseline or anything along these lines that DO NOT CONTAIN ALCOHOL OR FRAGRANCE , except for the occasional extra awesome moisturizing lotions. But the first three work best. If your nipples are already chafe try all three things ( avoid hot and extremely cold water, no rubbing fabrics or shower Sponges, moisturizing regularly) ; depending how bad your circumstance, this could range between two days to seeing improvement to two weeks. If you can't remember to do all these, at least try moisturizing two or three or however many times daily.

Hope this helps everyone,I know it was a lot but let's face it, we're complicated beings :-)

I have this too! I'm 18, never been pregnant and had these symptoms for years in both nipples.

Obviously when I googled these symptoms it told me I had paget's disease of the nipple (cancer). I have psoriasis (but of the scalp, and I keep it completely under control) so I thought it may be that. I went to the doctor and she said there's no way it could be paget's disease at my age and recommended some moisturizing cream because it looked like eczema. It's not going away and I'm really embarrassed because I'm in a relationship now and I don't want anyone to see my nipples :((

Hey, i'm 15 years old and i've had this for years now, it didn't bother me at all untill i started getting older and more concious about my body. I haven't told anyone about it and i'm too nervous/embarressed to talk to my mum about it. I am considering talking to a doctor to see if they know what could help stop it, i don't want to always be scared to take off my bra or get sexual with a boy because of it, it's really lowered my confidence and i really want to know what causes it. I don't have any sort of eczema so it can't be on my nipples... Whenever i go in the shower or bath, i wear a bikini bra because the water drys it out and i hate looking at them. Most girls my age are out having fun and i feel like the more i keep this in the dark, the more i'm going to exclude myself from doing things a girl my age should be doing. Please, if ANYONE knows what this is, tell me! But like i said, i'm thinking of maybe going to a doctor without my mum knowing, would that work? I do have quite large breasts, if that even makes a difference, i'm not sure. I couldn't find any sites about this until now, thank you so much!

i have the same exact problem so i talked to my mom about it and she said it's completely normal and to just clean it out when you shower and stop moisturizing  because the lotion gets stuck in the area. I've heard petroleum jelly helps but idk

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this! I've had this problem for almost 10 years! I had mastitis when I was pregnant with my son who's nearly 10. I always thought it was down to that.. Both nipples looked cracked straight through the middle, sort of split open? And the skin goes black, yellow purple and sometimes a green colour (sorry! Lol) sometimes it hurts so much I've had to use tweezers to get the bits out, they tend to stick out and cause so much pain. I'm also too embarrassed to go to the dr, but my auntie is a breast cancer care nurse and she's coming to check it out for me :) she said from what I've told her it could be a blocked duct, but she can't really say until she has a look. I've got a feeling she'll tell me to go to the dr lol I'll post back when she's been :))

The same exact thing had happened to me and I'm completely embarrassed I picked the piece of skin which never grew back and is inverted now. When it gets hard it sucks in instead of out and I'm completely embarrassed about it and I don't know what to do.

Wow I have exactly the same problem! I only noticed mine the other day. I'm fourteen and really only just hitting puberty now. Normally I've only got my dad to talk to but that seems a little weird. Should this be something I should see a doctor about? I just moved cities so I don't have a doctor yet. But is this just irritation from a bra? I'm a bit of a late bloomer so I've just started wearing on recently.

If anyone knows anything it really would be a big help!

Hi I'm only 12 and I'm getting the exact same thing. It kinda started when I started hitting puberty and getting my period. But it's really stressing me out and I don't know what it is! I'm to embarrassed to ask my mum about it. It's cracked yellowy black stuff in the middle of my nipple... And sometimes it's itchy. It's fallen off before but it's grown back. Does anybody know what this is???

I have this too! I've been a searching all over the internet and this is the only source that's familiar. There's this yellowy dark brownish thing in the center of my nipple. At first it was a light colour and it would fall off but it got darker and it's stroll there. I'm too embarrassed to ask my mum. It's sometimes is itchy and sometimes it hurts. If anyone has any information please PLEASE tell me because I'm really worried!

I have the same thing.. I'm so glad I found this I was feeling very embarrassed about it. I'm 19 now but I've had this for like three years and it's the same I have this whitish yellow crusty thing in the center of my nipple. When it starts poking out if it rubs up against my bra or shirt it hurts and when it comes off another one comes back. I'm thinking about going to the doctor after reading all these comments. I do have eczema really bad so maybe that is why I have it. I really just want to find out what it is and how I can stop it. Thanks everyone who posted stuff it's helped!
