I have this, without any anxiety symptoms.. I have thick clear mucus (sometimes with blood sometimes without) that chokes me badly..Any doctors on here?
I have had this experience before, and have found ways to change it. I just had a choking episode again and was curious to look it up, and ended up here. It is correct that changing the foods you eat can eliviate the thick mucus. I have learned to stay away from dairy and chocolate which are my triggers. Many people don't know they have reactions to foods until they eliminate them and see a change. Not all food sensitivities show up rashes or sever reactions, like the now growing peanut allergy. Some are more of an overload issue. So... after a family event yesterday where I did eat the mashed potatoes which contain milk and the chocolate dessert and chocolate favor... I am again conjested. It drips, I cough, sometimes choke because I can't cough it up well. It gets stuck in my throat and I literally am gasping for air. It is scary as all heck. I often bang on my chest which I feel may get things moving. However, I have learned to try to relax and with whatever little breath I have, I try to exhale even more thru my nose. I hadn't seen anyone about this but during my last episode of severe conjestion, the pharmacist suggested Allegria. That really dried things up where I stopped coughing and my ears stopped popping. I also sleep with a humidifier. This is the scariest thing I have experienced, but the main thing that has helped was my change in diet. Research elimination diets for allergies, foods that are inflammatory. Sure hope you find some relief.

Do you have cystic fibrosis?
you have cystic fibrosis. I was not diagnosed either
Kathleen, I know that my answer is very late. A year late. I sincerely hope that you already got the help. When I was graduating from my high school I got sick with anxiety disorder with panic attacks. My psychiatrist prescribed anti anxiety meds for me that worked but not really. My best treatment was going to psychologist. She helped me by making me talk about what was making me anxious and she also showed me relaxation technique that I still use and I am 38 now. In addition, she taught me that you have to distract yourself from worrying. It's very hard at first but it gets easier with practice. This could be anything from doing multiplication table from 1*1=1 to 9*9=81 or buy a book with word finder games or download favorite games on your phone. As soon as you start feeling anxious, stop doing what you were doing and start your distraction routine. If one doesn't work, move on to the next. Advise, it must require your attention and thought. Good luck and I hope I helped you. Better
or maybe Jason has an allergy to dairy. maybe that is why it might work. so sayeth me, not the lord. quit being so negative doctor dan.
I just found this post....I hope by now you are doing much better!....I will be 71 yrs. old in a few months and I have had similar episodes from time to time over a number of years.
I agree with others who have already responded to you....eliminate dairy because dairy increases mucus production. But this is just a small part of it. Please research Chinese Medicine in relations to food and how foods affect our bodies! It is amazing....you can 'google': in Chinese medicine how do cold property foods affect our health. also google: in Chinese medicine how do warm property foods affect our health.
You will come to understand how cold property foods (in Chinese medicine this is not solely cold temperature related) can create mucus and the problems associated with too much dampness and mucus in one's body. It has to do with the concept of Yin and Yang which will become clear to you as you read about it.
Believe me, you can really help yourself! You can start on your own and maybe, in time, you can see an eastern medicine doctor...with the correct foods and other eastern methods and treatments you can counter this problem and it will not take terribly long to do.
Don't do what I have sometimes done...when I adhere to what I should eat and other things ( acupuncture, massage, herbs) I feel wonderful but then I stop doing these things and then these episodes start again....
I hope I have helped you.
