Hi.

After dealing with constant pain for about 3 years, I was finally diagnosed with TOS due to 2 cervical ribs. I was finally seen at Johns Hopkins. Since then, I've had the x-rays, MRIs, and am schedule for a Lydocain Block. I've been through therapy, which only made pain worse. I can barely move my right hand now. If the Lydocaine block works and it proves that it is TOS, they are thinking surgery to remove the ribs.

If the block doesn't work the other thought is CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). I have a temperature difference between my hands, also my right hand it swollen, and discolored. I'm in so much pain now that it hurt to shake hands with anyone. I cannot bend my wrist at all!!!

If anyone can help me figure this mess out I would be greatful!!! If you have information about the surgery, recovery, and success rate of the TOS surgery I would love to hear about that too!!! Any other information is welcome as well!!!

Thanks!
Mindy

I'm shopping around for surgeons to correct my TOS. I was referred to Dr. Gelabert as well. Can you tell me about your surgery.

What type of surgery did you opt for? And how are you doing now? I'm also curious about who was the other surgeon that you visited?

Thanks for your time.

Thank you so much for your posting. I have an appointment with Dr. Gelabert, for the first time, in August. I am flying down from Seattle to see him. My suffering with TOS is truly unbearable. Hoping.......

Hello, I just saw Dr. Gelabert for a follow up appointment for a scalene block done a week ago. I was told the scalene block was considered successful which makes me a good candidate for surgery. Has the surgery significantly reduced your symptoms? Are you able to live a more physically functional life?

Thanks for any advice/help you can offer.

I had the Collins/UCLA MRI/MRV/MRA done in 2006 to confirm my TOS (bilateral) diagnosis. Awesome guy. I'm jealous Shayne because I only got 4 hours with him!! Hahahaha. He loves talking with patients who are interested in learning about their anatomy. I have had PT on and off over the past 8 years and it appears the time has come to consider surgery and of course my Dr. has referred me to Gelabert and I have an appointment next month. The PT gives me some temporary relief as well as doing my exercises and stretching but I suppose at this point I need to step up the treatment.

Hello, I was recently diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, since having a 3 level ACDF which was not a successful surgery. Is there anyone who is on disability for this terrible pain?
