Ok, I wanna try and describe this accurately.
First off the problem started when i was in 1st grade. In the lunch room ,can't remember what i was eating or anything but, I do know what occurred.
It starts off after a few bites I feel a building pressure, similar to choking but i can still breathe. (When i was younger it used to cause me to think i was choking but eventually as I got older these fears disappeared as I could distinguish the difference.) then if the pressure doesn't go away, as sometimes it will go away right away. It turns into a pain in the throat/upper chest. Every time i try to swallow the pressure/pain worsens and eventually I throw up mucous. It can be described as trying to burp but instead of it coming out its being blocked by vast amounts of mucous/phlegm and thats what causes the pressure. This can last for 15 mins - 2 hrs, The pain and discomfort is extreme. Now as this has gone on so long i have tried to troubleshoot/ figure out the problem myself. I know its not a food allergy as after the pain goes away I can resume eating (usually i am so shaken and tired from the ordeal that i do not. when it first occurred a long time ago i was told it was all in my head. And ever since i have been living with this pain. Its onset is random. However certain things trigger it automatically. Like if i try and swallow a tylenol it instantly happens but its effect is usually worse then normal. But it doesn't happen if I crush the tablet. Actually i thing to know is if i try and swallow anything "too large" it causes it. However it isn't limited to it, just an example of an instant trigger. Please help me.
I have no idea what it would be, but I would highly recommend seeing a homeopath or naturopath, if you've seen a doctor and that hasn't been of help.

I have the same problem. My doc said it is a muscle spasm in the throat muscles. I can tell when it will happen and sometimes things get caught.
I can swallow huge pieces of meat and choke on a pea. I can't predict what will cause it and sometimes I go for months without any problems.
The first time it happened with my wife we were just dating and in a fancy restaurant. I couldn't swallow and felt like I was choking, I knew what it was and I only had to relax for it to go down but she was freaking out.
I ran back to the kitchen to get out of the crowd and they followed, how embarrassing.

This will not go away, cannot be fixed, but it is hereditary. My father and grandfather both have the same thing.

i am a 41 year old male who was diagnosed with crohns disease 16 years ago. i also have this problem like swallowing a golf ball with the smallest bite of food. cant even swallow liquids during the attack. mucas becomes trapped in my throat with the food that i tried to swallow.i strongly believe this to be the stomach muscle on the top of your stomach failing to open and close as you swallow. also know as a herniated sphinxter muscle. my spelling sucks but you should see a gastro doctor to fix this. i still experience this but due to the crohns i have so manty other issues. good luck
