Hi I stimmbled on this page looking on the net for symtoms. I know I have had these same feeling on and off for years! It started after I had my daughter she was about 2 I was getting flutter feeling in my throat! Scared the c**p out of me, went to the Dr and had all sorts of tests done had the heart monitar that you hook up and take home that turned out fine. Then I went for a sono of the heart that was fine. So it went away, then a while after it was bad so I passed it by the Nurse Practionor and he said that it sounds like reflux without the acid! I wasnt having any acid I know what that feels like. But it is happening again and I have learned to keep track of these things over the years, it seems to happen most when I am stressed, I actually just had the feeling again I have been having it a couple of days now, it isnt all the time all day long it comes and goes. I can relate to all the above, I have woken up at night feeling like something has taken my breath away, I do find that eating a couple of tums helps me at times. I just think that it is weird and scarey! It is almost like a ANXIOUS feeling that the only way I can describe it. It is hard to describe to someone that doesnt know what the feeling is. But I see that I am not alone and that it is just life itself doesnt make it any less scarey but it is good to see that I am not alone, been under alot of stress lately so I think I should set my mind at ease because it does go away. I hope that I have helped as you all have helped me see that I am not alone..:-P

Hi everyone, just logged into this because I have recently been getting flutterring in my upper chest and throat. Am not on any medication or have never been. Am 46 and going through a divorce. Have never had these symptoms before and now feel reassured that it is anxiety I am experiencing even though I convince myself that I am super woman and that I can get through unscathed.  Who are we kidding ladies, for my part now I am intending not to neglect myself, admit I am human and try to take some time to pamper myself and relax a bit. I suggest we all put ourselves first sometimes and give ourselves the love and attention we deserve.  Bubble baths, retail therapy and rest without feeling guilty, laugh with girlfreinds and remember life is short and there is always someone worse off so be happy and sod anyone who tries to bring you down.

I have sufferd with anxiety since I was 19.  The fluttering is new after a really panically attacked when my plane was delayed and was trapped for an hour on the tarmat.  Getting to this hun It could be acid reflux from all those anxiety attacks you G.I. is stressed.  I had an endoscopy and put on Prilosec for a couple of months.  During that time the fluttering was greatly decrease to nil.  The bad thing about those meds like prolosec you can't take them forever becaouse it can cause bone loss osteoporosis so I had to stop now my fluttering is back often.  Ask yourself has your stomach been barthering you heartburn because that can also cause those attacks you have been having in the middle of the night that you can't breathe.  When the acid creaps up your esophogus your thoat will react to protect your lungs from injesting the acid or food comin up.  It is worth a try talk to your doctor insist on a work up

take care and good luck

I have been experiencing the same symptoms. my futtering lsts from exactly 11am unti 630pm! stange! but blieve its anxiety nmy mind anticipates it will happen at 11am so it does! I've had an EKG and my heart is fine! The doc says it might be reflux. So far the pills for that aren't working, so again, I think its anxiety. It's more annoying than anything. But at times I felt like there was or is something really wrong with me. Also, it seems to help if I'm lying down believe it or not! When I'm sitting up, it gets worse! Does anyone have this?

Hi Heidi

I'm sorry you are experienceing these symtoms. I to have had these symtoms for a few years.  I went through a battery of test at my doctors.  If it was something accually wrong with your heart they would be able to detect it so don't worry about that.  I have reflux as well and when I was on my meds for it it did deminish them somewhat.  I would only get the fluttering sometimes.  I feel it is a combonation of anxiety and reflux. I'm still trying to figure it out myself.  You can't stay on reflux meds forever do to certain potential problems. I am dealing with the fluttering once again. Do yourself a favor get your thyroid checked out you might have a problem where it is fluctuating .Even if you never had an issue with your thyroid tell you doctor to check your TSH.  Good luck with that let me know how it goes

Hi, i have been suffering anxiety and flutter and tremors with shortness of breath.  I had a nuclear stress test done with several ekg;s and ecg's, everything was normal but still getting them from time to time.  Today i've been having them throughout the day and itsvery scary. I notice when i drink alcohol it triggers them, anybody else with this problem this really depresses me.   Angie

yes, i have experience the same thing and lately everyday since last week, throughout the day, happening when i least expect it. my syptoms are flutter at end of throat with the beginning of the chest, to where it takes my breath away for a split minute to where i have to cough and at the same time get dizzy, i can't lay on my back because i am scared that i will not be able to breath at all when it happens. i feel that there is somthing wrong with my heart. i know that it skips a beat or more. but everytime i went in the hospital in the past they ran test after test and could not detect anything until one time two years ago they put a monitor on me and found that my heart did skip a beat but they did not take serious and put me on a beta blocker which i no longer take because of the side effects. the reason oi am on line now is because i do not know what else to do, or say that will convince my doctor that there is somthing wrong with me.

I have been having this throat sensation for about a month now. It feels like my breath gets knocked out of me for a second or two, very scary! I think this is the exact feeling many have expressed on this thread. I've had anxiety for a few years, I'm 34, Male and believe myself to be healthy. I workout, and exercise 3-5 Times a week. On top of the throat flutter I also get numbness or tingling in my face, muscle twitches, heart palps and many other symptoms! I have had test for thyroid, heart, etc. all come back normal. Anxiety is a tricky thing, it is in your subconscious and that makes it very hard to control. I hate dealing with all its ugly symptoms but I do, without medication. I've tried the meds, none worked and they are bad for you. are the throat "flutters" the feeling I am describing? taking your breath away for a second, feels like a muscle spasm..for lack of any other way to describe it.

Hello all! i honestly though i was the only person expierencing this kind os stuff. I am 22 years old and i have been getting anxiety attacks for 9 months now. I have went to the ER they reffered me to a mental health doctor the mental health doctor tells me she dosnt want me to get medication for this she wants me to go to group therapy!! i have tried to go to group therapy. I cant make it there with out having a panic attack.. When i get attacks my heart starts beating really fast and i feel like i cant sit or lay down. If i do try to sit or lay down i feel like i am going to start shaking. I have never actually started shaking though. My shoulders get really tence and i feel like i cannot life my arms. I put my self on xanex because i need something to calm me down. I get 1 milligram pills and break them in half each time i feel one comming i take a half of 1 milligram xanex and it does work for me tremendously. I am not big on taking pills but taking this little ammount does not make me feel "high" I can still function and study and attend college. Recently the past week. I have been feeling my heart flutter mostly when i wake up. It is ver scarry and it happenes like every 7 heartbeats i can feel it in my throat. I am scared it gives my anxiety just from feeling my heart flutter. I am going to go to a doctor maybe the ER if i feel it tonmorrow and i will let you guys know what they say.

I have a two year that barely sleeps all night since birth, my husband was in the hospital twice in Jan 2012 (back and almost cut his pinkie off) and has been on workmens comp since then. I was working 6 days a week for months in a row. Have a father in law that has alztimers. I currently have post nasal drip, slight cough and what could be heart flutters in my chest and throat. Not certain if its flutters or the excess mucus build up. I have had a few instances where I have had anxiety attacks (sweating, rapid pulse, not wanting to eat etc). I have been taking bc for years (ortho lo) but recently was changed to novuum 777 and Nortel 777. Since then my moods have been horrendous and panicky. Is this all due to anxiety? I am thinking of going on the hormonal IUD

I would agree, the alcohol withdraw causes anxiety , sweating , dizziness, tachycardia. I get the throat feeling and a skipped beat, it sucks.
