Insane! And all this time I figured I was the only one... I have so many of these strange wanna gag/gag issues it's ridiculous! I've actually had these "attacks" for about 15 years now and unfortunately, there isn't any "fixing" it. From what I can tell, it is directly related to anxiety (in the beginning) which leads to social anxiety (due to you not wanting to go into public BECAUSE of these attacks) and ends up ruining every opportunity to enjoy life. There are, however, a LOT of helpful anxiety tips out there that may be able to help you overcome these attacks for the most part. Of course, my anxiety is so far along that I'm pretty much brainwashed by my own self into a life of dungeon living. I do try to get out as much as I can which does seem to help. If you can manage to put yourself COMFORTABLY into a social situation as much as possible, chances are it will help you quite a bit...

I've had this problem also all my life, I get anxious and nervous pretty much out of everything, I can't do anything or go out with friends, it is really sad I feel fear of throwing up or something and feel nauseous and sometimes I gag, Its hard to explain but its like I can't swallow my spit and when I try I gag. Most of the time it doesn't happen but that doesn't help since the anxiety alone controls you. I did some research and it looks like there's other people with the same problem. Has anybody ever gotten cured? Im 24 and im afraid I will never be able to go on with my life, I wish i could get married have children and find a better job but I can't because of this.

I have this problem as well, I use Tic-Tacs or other mints to help with the gag.I found jolly ranchers, fruit flavored anything and sometimes gum makes the gag worse. I have been told so many things by Dr.s tried all kinds of meds. nothing works but the mints help control it.

I am experiencing the symptoms listed above, but I know what you mean when you say that it makes you feel better. This gagging sensation starts and I find if i just go gag it out that it subsides.

I am experiencing the same thing. I found that drinking fluids tends to knock down the sensation. I know exeactly what you mean about not going places because your affraid, im 21 myself and I am the same way. If I have to go somewhere I have water in hand and for some reason the strong smell of hand sanatizer calms it a little (maybe because of the alcohol affect????) so that is always in my pocket. Ive had a range of tests done to try to figure this out. My gags are really strong and actually make me throw up, as an effect I rarely eat out of fear.

I know this. I get this feeling too. I feel like their is something really wrong in my throat and its making me v anxious. But I have anxiety anyway. But. I just spit in the street now. As I feel like I can't breathe. And panic to breathe ( how ladylike). But I'm fed up of it. It makes me cry too. I sometimes gargle with water and drink tons of water to try and get rid of it. The only way I can describe it it's like fur ball

I've recently considered this to be the cause of my problems. I've been dealing with a choking/gagging sensation that seems to originate directly under my jaw. It's to the point where if my shirt collar brushes against this area of my neck, I begin gagging terribly. I've been dealing with neck and upper-back problems for many year now. A few years ago my neck and back were so tight I took a muscle relaxant before going to bed one night, and the next day my muscles felt like they were made of stone because they were so tight. The result was a nerve compression between my C5 & C6 vertebrae causing a numbness sensation in my right-hand thumb and index fingers. So I have a history of back problems. Besides that, I've been dealing with balance/dizziness problems that I believe are the result of this constant tension in my neck and back. This week I began physio for this balance/dizziness problem, and was instructed to perform a few different exercises/stretches for my neck. Ever since I've started doing those, the gagging/choking sensation seems to be much more pronounced that it was before! That can't be a coincidence. It seems to be much worse in the morning, then subsides throughout the day, but is always there, just to a lesser degree. Like I've read on other posts here, the very thought of food is enough to induce a 'gag attack' and has made eating quite difficult. I'll ask my physiotherapist about it next week. I'm also beginning massage therapy for my neck/back next week and I'm a little scared about having a 'gag attack' during it while they work on my neck.

Same problem here...I used to supress it with eating peppermint breath savers but now its gotten worse...Nothing supresses it until I gag then it goes away. last evening I had an attack and it lasted over an hour until I finally just let it go and gagged myself free of the feeling. I woke up with it this morning. I had to cancel a visit with family because of this crazy feeling. Its been going on for years. Anyone know the answer? I think its either anxiety or allergies with post nasal drip in back of throat. I can't even go to the dentist because my gag reflex is so sensitive???? HELP

I also use a neti pot to clean nasal passages and it never seems to help while problem is going on...

I have been smoking for years but recently I can't even stand the smell of them. Last week at work I felt dizzy and nausea then I end up throwing up. I have thrown up for the past 3 or 4 days. I can't even stand it. Even when I'm laying down I still get dizzy. I don't know what to do.. Help!
