Yes, these horrible little (and sometimes quite big) stinky things are tonsilliliths - AKA Tosil Stones. They are a collection of dead skin cells, mucous, small food particles and other debris that collect in the crypts and creases of the tonsils. Over time they build up to a size where they can actually be felt; like a foreign object at the back of the throat that can be quite irritating - rarely painful, but more a sense that something is there in the mouth that shouldn't be! Eventually they will grow to a size whereby they will push their way out of their hiding place, or can be forced out with a cough or sneeze. It is also possible to manually manipulate them to remove them.
They are a common, but rarely discussed, cause of bad breath. Believe me, squish one of those little suckers and take a sniff and you can see why! They reek to high heaven and honestly, I have smelt better poop than these guys! Absolutely FOUL!!
There are articles on them if you search, and even some videos on youtube of people extracting them (if you can stomach it!). The only way to irradicate the problem entirely is having the tonsils removed. I am currently, as I type this, into my 2nd day post Op. of a tonsillectomy and I can tell you it is quite a harrowing experience so far, and from what I have read it will likely get worse! :'(
Anyway - that is a whole other post, but although my main reason for having the tonsils out was re-current tonsilitis, over-sized tonsils and chronic sore throat, I also suffered with the tonsil stones and I am thrilled that despite my current pain, once I am fully recovered I will never again have to deal with those awful foul smelling lumps of t**d in my mouth!!!

these are tonil crypts. i suffered for 15 years, doctors didnt want to know. my dental hygienist said the only way was to have my tonsils out. i forced my doctor to let me have the operation. haven't looked back since, now i laugh, talk all the time, my confidence has gone through the roof and my breath is really fresh. can't believe doctors let us mentally suffer for so long, when it's such a simple op. good luck :-)

What are the little white balls in the back of the throat? They smell bad and give a bad taste in the mouth.
