Good morning,

I have a question about when to take my thyroid medication.

I normally take it first thing in the morning, a couple hours before I eat breakfast. However, I do take it with a large cup of tea, with light cream and sugar, which i drink throughout the day. I was talking with a friend, who is a pharmacist, and she told me that I should not be doing this because the light cream will slow the absorption of the medication into my body.

Just looking for some clarification on this issue.

Thank you in advance,

Kevin
I was told that I should take my thyroid meds near the same time everyday. ( I like you take them in the morn). A specialist told me to take thyroid meds on an empty stomach or two hours after I eat and not to consume any food 20-30 minutes after taking the thyroid meds so they will get in your blood stream. I do drink coffee but do not use cream. Cream may be considered a food since it coats the stomach. Therfor I recomend that you wait 20-30 minutes after you take your meds before consuming coffee with cream.
This way must be correct...I've been on thyroid replacement meds for 17yrs and never had to change the dosage. My doctor can't even believe it!
