Unfortunately with my first daughter we had constant illness, water on the ears, asthma- like symptoms and fevers from about 2yr- 4yrs of age. These problems were every other week and during sick season every week sometimes. She had HUGE tonsils and as it turns out a very large adnoid as well. These were removed at 4yrs and now, at 5yrs, she very rarely gets sick. Furthermore, she no longer needs an inhailer, antibiotics or fever reducers. If your child is very noisey when they sleep (doctors will ask if your child snores... Our child was so constricted that it wasn't even a snore, just a lot of noise!) and is experiencing sleep apnea (our child would wake up angry in the middle of the night 1- 3x a night), you may want to have the tonsils checked out.

Our second child is usually very healthy all the time. I have been taking her to the childcare at the gym alot because I teach group exercise. I'm finding that my kids and other instructors' kids seem to get sick roughly every 10- 14 days during the sick season. This could be because alot of kids are going thru the childcare facility. Even though the childcare workers sanitize everything kids are still getting sick. I learned from some web sites that I've been reading, that people can carry the stomach flu virus for up to 2 weeks after symptoms go away and kids are usually the ones who are contagious that long.

why don't you take him out of daycare??? that should eliminate most of his sicknesses. if he's constantly ill, he needs you the most and wants you to be there for him and to take care of him. if it's about money, adjust your lifestyle so you can be his mother, not a daycare worker.

my son had his adnoids removed, his sinuses drained and cleaned out and he has been pretty healthy since then. he still is prone to sickness. unfortunately, he has a weaker immune system and is on herbal supplements now to help him build it up.

good luck!

Came across this searching for why my 2.5 year old has been sick every 3 weeks with fevers and ear infections. My son sounds EVERYTHING like all of your children the ONLY diffirence is that my son is NOT in Daycare and never has been. My 6 year old is in school though! I am really starting to think that it is in some of these shots we got our children when they were infants. Does anyone practice any religions that dont get shots, just out of currisoity? I was raised CS and never got shots and you wanna know what, I was BARELY sick as an infant, toddler or child. Now I am an adult its diffirent but my kids got shots and are not raised CS and they are always sick!

i came across this site looking for suggestions on 'the care of', or remedies for high fever & vomiting with a toddler. .. My son is 5 now and we've gone threw this more times then i feel comfortable with! i am growing quite concerned!! I believe it was not quite 2 months ago the same symptoms occurred with him... ( high fever, up to 104*F & vomiting) & now all aver again this evening, it is now 4 in the morning and i finally have him in bed asleep with a little sprite and bubble gum flavored ibuprofen in his belly..(thank god he didnt start throwing up all over the place this last time!!) every time we go to the DR i hear the same thing.." It's just a stomach virus just give him a fever reducer & push liquids, bla bla bla".. why does this keep happening to me!!
(BTW.. his med history is as follows - lactose intolerance with bottle, out grew intolerance after he weened but i am still hesitant about giving milk. two minor colds by age 2 or 3. & as mentioned the illness i spoke of previous at least 10 times if not more since birth until now!?!)
Does anyone now what the deal is or am i just being silly?

HI
I wanted to know if anyone has discovered anything since this thread was started back in 2007? My son is going through the same thing- or has been through some rough times- has asthma- many many ear infections- we learned that baths were no good and no more swimming pool for him- he does get sick more often than my daughter- he is now 3.5 and just this year had some sinus infections. He is not in a regular daycare but he stays at gym daycare for no more than 2.5 hours a day. For the past 5 days he has had very high fever- slowly rising to over 105.00. No other symptoms are present and he seems to be getting worse each day. He was better throughout the day but now as soon as the Tylenol wears off he gets the high fever. We took him to the pediatrician and she says it's not an infection and it's not staph. we tested him for influenza and that was negative. I am a little confused. We've been to ENT and have the regular allergy specialist but none of them are any helpful. They have us come in just to tell us to continue what we are doing. I am sad, confused and frustrated. I am hoping my daughter that was just born September 16th of this year will be different so as far as talking about children that are going through this I cannot talk about that. I can however talk about myself. When I was younger all the way from when I was a baby to now at the age of 26 I had ear infections and got sick every 2 weeks. All throughout highschool and etc I was sick every two weeks. I would be put on the same medication, doxycycline, and it would be the only antibiotic that worked. I just stopped working and became a stay at home wife ( now mom ) 2 years ago and I dont get sick as often but when I do get sick I do not get over it on my own and still need antibiotics. Before I got pregnant I couldnt even go around anyone with the common cold or I would get sick and it would turn into something worse. I have been hospitalized for pneumonia 4 times in my life and have had it every year since I can remember. While I was pregnant though I never got sick and I was around people who had strep throat, pneumonia, sinus infections, etc. I went to the same doctor for 25 years and he could never figure out what was wrong and why I would get sick all of the time. The only reason I quit going to him was because he passed away. Lately I have been researching on the internet though about hormones and immune disorders (which is what my dr called it). I have found alot of very helpful information about why this could be happening finally. I just wanted to share my story with you and hope in all of your guys' cases that it is not something your child has to go through for the rest of their lives. Hopefully a doctor can figure it out soon!

Sounds like daycare should be avoided. When you think about, it makes sense.
However, my son has never set foot in a daycare, yet he's suffering on the eve of his second birthday.
It's very lonely when everything fails and when there's no one to call. Certainly no doctor.
Doctors are a little like parrots. They memorized allot of stuff and have a reference book. If you fit, then maybe some can be done. If you don't, well, you'll probably get jammed into something they can write down and totally off.
My son was having bad reactions to his antibiotics, but since his symptoms weren't in the books, they said "go on" until I spoke to the drug dealer "pharmacist" and he told me to stop and switch.
Your stories cut deep. As a new parent, I had no idea. No wonder parents are insane. Can't remember when I last slept.

Some of these stories are from 2007. Where are you now? Your follow up would be very beneficial.

Prayers don't help. But I still pray. I can pray for you at least. So know that somebody, somewhere, anonymously... is out there, praying for some healing. And maybe it doesn't come when we want it. And maybe it doesn't come when we need it. But sometimes it does. I guess there's a big surrender and let go part to this.

Peace.

My little girl is two and a half right now. In 2009 she had 7 ear infections between October and February, we were just about to get ear tubes for her and the ear infections stopped. For her ear infections we were doing what the doctor said and giving her antibiotics - but after the 6th ear infection - she had like one every 3 weeks, we decided to try to let her heal herself. So we gave her hyland ear ache tablets when she woke up crying - and they worked. Then this last October she started itching her left eye, and her nose. It was really bothering her, enough to wake her up at night crying, but she wasn't complaining about her ears. We went to the doctor and they said that she had an ear infection. So we tried to let her heal it up, but it wasn't happening and we couldn't watch her struggle and Christmas was coming up - we wanted her to enjoy her Christmas. So we gave her the antibiotic and things cleared up. She's complaining again about her nose itching, and woke up every hour last night. It's so painful to watch the little ones struggling, but not able to explain what's happening and bothering them. All that I know is I've started making homemade chicken broth (which is really good for the immune system) and started giving her echinacea tincture (herbs), as well as Elderberry Apitherapy (another herb mixture for herbs) twice a day and she's only had 1 (maybe 2 - she might have one now) ear infection this year. I don't know if this helps anyone, but I feel all of your pain. If you're interested in reading I have a blog that I use to write about her health or lack there of - I need to update it more frequently - but it has some good information on it:***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed

my child has the exact same thing! Fevers every 2-3 weeks lasting 3-5 days. We were going to go see an Immunologist but we were sent to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist first. They told us about a chronic fever syndrome and said that a possible cure is to take out his tonsils. It is hereditary and we have a niece who had this done. I am nervous about taking his tonsils out and was wondering what you found out from the Immunologist?

Hi all, my son who is now 4.5 started getting sick around 18 months old and was constantly sick with viruses, infections etc until age 3.5 . His age 2-3 year he was WELL for only about 6 of 52 weeks. The paediatrician said it was just viruses etc, but his illnesses were constant. He has always been food intolerant, can't eat wheat dairy soy most fruits or vegetables. Unfortunately we found that his diet though limited, was still too broad so it allowed his immunity to become too low, fighting off the food and leaving no room for fighting viruses. We opted eventually to see a GP who also uses natural therapies, who put him on a detox: 2 weeks Nilstat, then 2 weeks dairy free Probiotic (and continue), then 2 weeks Intestamine powder, followed by indefinite use of Kirkman digestive enzymes. This detox worked for him and he has rarely been sick since. To note, the illnesses became worse and more frequent with him starting daycare age 2, and now he has just started preschool which has started him on a round of viruses from changing to a new environment with a new group of children. Also note, each time he was given a round of vaccines his allergies flared up, leading me to finish his schedule at age 1 and not continue with vaccines until they are necessary for travel at an older age. Someone earlier mentioned a heart test, I haven't done but am considering it now after a friend had one for her son and found major defect which explained his constant poor health. I hope this helps somebody, we truly exhausted every medical avenue with our son only to find that the best doctor is mum and google! Get lots of different opinions, include medical professionals, and naturopaths etc. We also found Physio/ osteopathy helped our son, his neck muscles were incredibly tight from falls, illnesses etc when makes their immunity low too.
