my 5 year old son is going to have a tonsilectomy and they are doing his adnoids too, and he has von Willebrands disease- a bleeding disorder-. my question is what do i do to prepare and make sure everything goes smoothly. my other question was what do i expect in detail about surgery and post op with a five year old and what i need to do? please any advice, im just really nervous
Considering your son has a bleeding disorder, he will be probably more prone to bleeding after the surgery. Have you talked to the doctors? You need to give them all the information regarding your son because they may have not had the experience in dealing with such disorders, so it would be good to let them know before, so that they could prepare and work together with a hematologist in the management of your son’s surgery.
I reckon it is doctors who will have to do all the work, do pre-op lab testings and prepare your son for the surgery giving him different blood factors, restrict fluids prior surgery…..all depending upon which procedure they choose to do.
I reckon you should ask all the information from them as they are the ones who should fill you in with all the details considering it is the doctors who will be managing it.
Has your son had any other larger procedures done before?
