Hi 14 yr old. this is my 6 weeks post surgery and thank God the pain and discomfort is over. i had all of your experiences and more because i'm older. but you do get relief up to week 4. i ended up in the ER on two occasions for pain and dehydration. sip room temp water/gatorade, eat sherbert and not ice cream. ice cream is slimy/ produces phlem. watch out for infection- will show as green phelm. watch out for blood. go to er if u see those signs. hang in there! It will soon pass.

forget about eating breakfast or tasty snacks for the next 3 weeks. sherbert, soup, and liquids are your best friend. i tried chicken in my first week and it hurt like hell. so your not missing anything right now. focus on healing and not your appetite.

hey guys i have had my tonsils taken out a week and few days and for some reason, my left side of my throat is hurting much more than my right side when i swallow, eat or drink anything. and i had my tonsils taken out because my left tonsil was bigger than my right one and i had an infection... i wonder if this could be linked to why my left side of the throat is hurting more than my right side?thanks. Also good luck to the 14 year old!

I'm 19 days into my recovery and the burning has kicked in along with sever pain when I'm up after 9 pm. I use Chloraseptic spray and throat drops to help with the burning, the pain post sleeping, and prior to eating. This helps more than the fifty pain meds I have in my basket of meds next to my bed. I kept the meds in the bed with me the first week till I went to the ER for a kidney stone on day 5 of recovery cause it hurt to much to drink often. I went up the street today to eat lunch since being home. I had a small chicken casadia and a apple juice. It took me 45 minutes to finish it cause I had to hold off on my meds in order to drive myself. I was just that tired of being the bed. Chicken soup was my first meal at home and it almost killed me. My mouth is swallon so I panic each time I swallow cause the food moves slow going down plus there is a chance it might come out my nose instead of going down my throat. I rinse my nose and gargle with room temp bottle water and salt which seems to help to releave the burning sensation in my nose and throat. I hold ice to the rear of my mouth and ice my neck down which seems to help also. I had the sleep apnea surgery where the ENT did a tonsillectomy-vuvala removal-and bilateral resection of infererior turbinates.

I'm 9 days post-op not 19 days, blame it on the Liguid Lortab I drank so I can eat this tuna fish I made 25 minutes ago but was hurting to much to eat it. Yes my food has been sitting in front of me for 25 minutes waiting for me to feel better so I can eat it.

Hello NaeNerZ,
Yes, the pain you are experiencing is normal. I am 3 months into my recovery and have healed nicely. A lingering ear ache persists but that too is normal. I too had lost 15lbs post surgery. For me, meal was room temp liquids such as water, gatorade, and occasional chicken broth. Sherbert was great for the stinging sensation. Forget about meats or tasty delights, and focus on healing. I went to the ER twice because of the pain and ear ache, but they gave me fluids and rest and send me home. In other words, it's all part of the experience. Go to the ER if it makes you feel better, but its what it is! I started to eat soft food after my 7th week. Admit it that you are not really starving...children in AFRICA are. You're just not accustomed to not satisfying your desires when you want to. Exercise some discipline over your appetite, Drink soup and thank God that your surgery was successful. the next 6 weeks you should see great improvements..
