hey ~ im 16 i just got my tonsils out 3 days ago but i had something as the doctor said “rare” happen where at 1 am the next morning *me still being up from the pain* the veins under where my tonsils were supposed to be ruptured and i didn’t get surgery until 12:45 pm that was tuesday and wednesday it is now 11pm friday and my throat hurts where i can’t eat and barely drink i’m most likely just gonna try to stay hydrated as i know you can survive a long time without food as long as you drink. but i’d suggest keeping it cold and wet and try to get some rest when you can and definitely eat when you can but just take it easy and relax(i have not been doing so therefore i’m getting shmacked in return)

My son had his done last year in may his nose and tonsils however he is still experiencing the burning throat sensation and also gets as he explains it light headed but heavy headed asked doctors all they did was look and say everything is ok. Why would he still feel this.

im not a doctor but I am also on day 9 and edibles are a life saver. they numb my entire area where I am having pain which is same as you guys back of throat and back of tongue, having this crazy burning feeling everytime I drink or eat.. popped 3 gummy bear edibles and 10 minutes later I can drink water without feeling a thing. It's not legal where I live but i rather be eating a few edibles then popping oxys every 3 hours.

My daughter who is 13 just had her tonsils removed. On day 7 the burning that I'm reading about started. I'm hoping I can try to help answer some of the questions that have been asked. As of today which is day 10, her burning has pretty much stopped. I would say she had a good solid 3 days of the awful burning. Those days were her worst during the whole entire process of recovery so far. The meds she has been on during this process are liquid ibuprofen and liquid hydrocodone. Both burned terribly when she took them to the point where she would cry and not want to take the pain meds at all. One thing I found that helped her was to chase the pain meds with a Danimals drinkable yogurt. I know its recommended to stay away from dairy however these seemed to help cool the burning for her. She drank quite a few of these in the strawberry and strawberry banana flavor. The G2 that was mentioned was helpful also on day 8 but only at room temperature. During the burning process, she couldnt handle anything cold. Room temp is the way to go. I hope that helps to answer some of the questions that have been asked. I probably won't be checking responses to this unless something new pops up during my daughters recovery that I think is relevant. Good luck everyone!

To reduce the pain you can try eating ice cream alone. And dont just swallow it straight away but keep the ice cream in your throat where it burns to melt.

This helps so much. I’m on day 8. Yesterday was my worst. Couldn’t eat or drink. Today seems a little better. Thanks for your comments! “This too shall pass”.

I had my tonsillectomy 6 day ago and it seems to be going well. I haven’t eaten a lot today though because whenever I try to swallow there’s a stinging at the back of my throat around the scabs and I can’t see the scabs because my tongue I think is swollen. Does anyone know what this means? Also some advice:
-water is my best friend right now. It’s one of the few things I can stand to drink.
-if you ever find that there’s a lot of mucus at the back of you throat, I suggest you to gargle (softly) some warm water with salt.
I hope that helped.

Not so sure that’s correct, because it’s also my left side that’s giving me hell (I’m on day 7) but my right tonsile was bigger.

Oh my goodness, I’ve been complaining so much about the pain as a 20 year old and I’ve heard it only gets worse with age. I’m so sorry for what you have gone through but my god I am so impressed and amazed and awestruck by your composure and compassion. Thank you so much for your post!!!
