Hello, It's been 9 days for me and I have intense burning in my throat whenever i swallow food or liquid. I finally had to go to the hospital and get an iv of medicine and liquids. This helped me over come the worst days of the burning. I'm out of the hospital today and I still have burning but not nearly as bad.

Thank you so much for this post. I thought I was going crazy. I had my lingual tonsils removed on 11-6. My tongue is still burning and I have pain on the left side of my throat. The left tonsil was the worst. I am 61 years old so you can image how I feel. This was a procedure that had to be done but my ENT did not prepare me for what was to come. After two weeks his nurse said I should "force" myself to eat. I am still on liquids and some soft foods. I do keep myself hydrated. I am constantly drinking something. Salt only adds to the discomfort so I have to be careful.
Thank you again for the information.

I was soo glad to find this thread!! I am on day 9 post op & still in pain. Day after surgery and day 3 were ok, day 4 onwards have been truely horrific! I have not slept the whole night through since the night before my tonsillectomy. Sleep actually makes the pain worse. When I wake up, I can barely move the pain is so unbearable, the ear pain is as bad as my throat & the pain in my tongue is horrendous. I am on paracetamol, ibuprofen, dihydracodeine & Oramorph for the pain. I use ice packs behind my ears to help ease the ear pain, do salt water gargles 3/4times a day & eat crushed ice for most of the day & night. Today, day 9 is the first day I can honestly say that I've seen any improvement and it's only just noticeable. I am still clock watching to see when my next meds are due. I managed to eat my first meal this evening - noodles! Slipped down easily without too much discomfort. Seen my gp yesterday who said all appears normal and how it should after surgery & should start seeing improvement by the end of this week ( day 11/12 ) I cant wait until I can eat & enjoy my food, sleep the whole night & not depend on meds to see my through the day. I wish you all the very best of luck weather you are post or pre surgery. Suzanne 30yrs old.

Im sorry but vulva is the outer parts of women's "garden" i believe you mean uvula, the little dangly thing at the back of your throat, well I'm 15 and i had my tonsils removed on monday m its now saturday so day 6 i guess, i had a tiny amount of blood come up yesterday but according to everyone its quite normal, woke up this morning to pain as usual but after taking my pain meds (co-codamol 30/500) , noticed a burning sensation at the back of my throat particularly on the left side, i managed to eat a McDonald's breakfast yesterday and managed to do a "number 2" as i believe the pain meds make you very constipated, 3 things have helped me so far, 1 drink plenty of water to keep your hydration levels up 2 stay way ahead of your pain meds, if its every 4 hours take them every 3 hours 45 minutes 3 ICE PACKS , these are extremely useful for the pain you will feel in your ears and down the sick of your neck, apply until the ice melts or the back goes room temperature then replace. Also i have decided to stop smoking as it would be sheer idiocy to continue while my throat looks like a cheese greater, if you are a smoker expect to bring up phlegm (which will hurt like s**t) also you will feel nausea , painful head, drowsy , tired etc etc , i hope this information helps you all and btw get well soon

Thank you I'm on day 8 and is more tolerable, it still hurts to swallow but I know eventually it will go away. My ear had been bothering me extreme aches. No food yet and cold items hurt to swallow I guess things will progress positively being patient is the key.

Ok I'm on my 7th day. Just got back from the hospital because I was dehydrated. I keep trying to talk because my family tells me to. But I have to worst pain I've had so far. And it's on the back right side of my tongue. And I fear I'm going to get dehydrated again, because of the pain. I can't drink water. Or G2. Or eat anything. I've lost about 14 pounds now. And everything my family keeps giving me is COLD. And that gives me headaches. I'm starting to wonder how long this process is going to take. Because I haven't been able to eat ANYTHING since the night before the surgery.
