hi, my right tonsole is larger than my left and once in a while i get a solid yellow pus inside it. it is mostly located in a little hole in my tonsole, it feels like my throat is scratchy and it drives me crazy i have recently been taking a q-tip and lightly brushing the area until the pus pops out. i saw my family doctor about it and he said that i need em out, and then he assigned me to meet with a specialist.he said that i should not have them out because it would be a pain in the ass on my part... and that the q-tip idea is ok put wants me to purchase a waterpick... i really dont know what to do on this one, any help whatsoever would be great...

also wondering if anyone else has this problem..
What is a tonsole?

What you have is called "cryptic tonsils". It's actually really really common. Gross and not really something that would be considered 'table talk'...but common none the less.

Basically your tonsil has these little caves in it, and various things like chewed up food reminants, post nasal drip, and saliva collect in these caves...over time the saliva disolves all of this stuff and it turns into these "tonsil stones", which eventually will normally work their way out.

One of my tonsils was cryptic, and I recently had my tonsils removed. I, however, also had very swollen (almost touching) tonsils and infections (tonsilitis, strep, bronchitis, etc)....but my motivation was being annoyed with poping 2 or 3 of these things out on a daily basis. Using a water pic can keep the crypts clean and some people swear by good oral hygiene to prevent tonsil stones...but I brush 3 times a day, gargle, floss, etc daily and I still got them.

If the stones dont bother you that much and you dont have any other throat problems or sicknesses, I wouldnt recommend a tonsillectomy, I'd say just use the water pic to deep clean and deal with it...because the recovery is absolutely miserable. If you do tend to have other throat problems and you get sick a lot then I would recommend the surgery. There is an alternative to an actual tonsillectomy called coblation. Has about a 4 day recovery time, much less painful, less chance of bleeding...
