Please ask to join my FB group- TRAM/DIEP- Complications And Hope. Our group is growing fast. There are so many with abdominal complications after Tram Flaps, Free Trams and even Diep Flaps. An Admin with have to be able to send you a Private Message. There is a repair and there is hope. I was repaired of 3 hernias in 2013. The group contains all the information you need for repair. Tram Flaps come with a 40% or greater risk of hernias. Dr. Ron Israeli and Dr. George Denoto III ON LI, NY have now published their repair in The Atlas Of Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, Vol. 2.
Our group would be happy to help support and guide you. And know that your not alone.

Hello, I had tram flap reconstruction in the year 2000. I have had constant pain every day since. Two years ago I had a bad infection in the surgical stomach area, and had to have the plastic mesh removed. I have to struggle everyday to just do menial tasks. I wish I had never heard about this procedure. The plastic surgeon had left clips in my stomach all around where the plastic mesh was placed. I nearly died, due to the infection I got. My stomach never healed.

The pain, swelling, protrusion, back pain........the burning, pulling and tearing...it is all so debilitating...at time excrutiating. 20 years now. And the original procedure? Not quick (8 1/2 hours) and not safe. I got MRSA and went septic...horrific experience.

I had the surgery in 1999 but I am now having problems with an abdominal bulge which is causing problems when I walk. The bulge is obvious but no one seems to know what to do with it. I would appreciate the names of the doctors who were able to help you.

I have the same story i thought it was supposed to be like a tummy tuck and turned out to make me look pregnant at the end of my days depending on what I ate that day also, guessing inflammation from the abdominal muscles and tissues were doing to my body; I get some relief by wearing the old waist support from the surgery 7 years ago.

I had trans flap surgery in feb of 2019, after going thru breast cancer treatment and having masectomy on left breast, they tried breast reconstruction and that got infected and had to be removed, I then developed suroma's that wouldn't go away, they then did the trans flap surgery to get rid of the suroma's, two weeks after surgery I was all infected and was in the hospital, the surgeon reopened me and cleaned the area., in November of 2020 I had what they thought was a hernia and they did surgery , it turned out to be a hemotoma which they removed, the incision healed but there was a 1/2 inch hole that drained, they tried restitching the area but the hole returned. finally ended up in wound care, they did ct and found there was an absess and possible fluid, they did surgery 12/2021 and found out that the mesh from my flap surgery is infected. What to do now. they say the mesh has to be removed is there any other way. has anyone else had there mesh infected?
