Hi,
My name is Romel David and I had an aortic dissection two years ago. I was at UC Davis for two months undergoing a total of five surgeries. Which included a graft on my ascending thoracic aorta and a straw sewed into my abdominal aorta to replace my destroyed iliac artery. With the exception of a drop foot as a result of blood flow being clamped of during surgery; I seem to have recovered very nicely. I manage my bp with meds and watch my diet and exerciser regularly. However, I too often wonder what my long term life expectancy is. I am now 54 years old and have learned to take each day as a gift. God never promised me tomorrow; He gave me only today.

My 42 year old husband suffered a Stanford Type B dissection on April 15, one day before our 13th anniversay. His doctor cleared him to go back to work even though we told him he works with patients that may become combative. Should we be concerned?

My husband had the same, top to bottom dissection. He lived for almost 11 years before his aorta ruptured and he passed away.

Thank you for your post. You give me hope. My husband had a type A and B dissention in April 2014. He had surgery to correct the type A, he has a mechanical valve. They are treating the type B dissention with medications but I am very afraid every time he has a stomach or back pain. His left legs is numb most of the time but he walks and even goes to the movies sometimes. It is a real miracle he is alive. Thank you again. Isa

Hi
Did the doctors tell you 'why' you were still having back pain?? I had a type B AD 2 months ago with continued back pain. A very recent CT scan was taken and the dr said everything looked ok? Thanks

Hi. I also had a type B dissection this past year on Oct. 10, 2014. I can say that this was the most horrible experience I have ever been through. My dissection happened 4 days after my 55th birthday and on my 28th wedding anniversary. I also went through surgery and have since returned to work. Its now been nearly 4 months and every day I feel stronger.
