So...the florastor seems to be actually working a bit. It seems to dull the itch/burning feeling. One thing I am also using is tuck's wipes right after a bowel movement. So...things I can recommend. Use florastor twice per day. Wipe with tuck's witch hazel after bowel movement. Eliminate/cut drastically caffeine such as coffee and tea, and cut carbonated sodas or drinks out of the diet. Also...cut down on tomato sauce products, anything cheesy, and too much pasta. I'm someone who has had this for years and with these steps it seems to have been dulled. Please try this

After taking an antibiotic for a spider bite and it's bacterial infection 8 months ago, within 2 weeks of ending the pills, I started to get uncontrolled discharge from my rear end. Very small but noticeable discharge. If I ate chilies, onions uncooked or Tabasco it burned like hell. I coined it "Squishy Butt Syndrome" for a better name. Not one doctor at Kaiser knew what was wrong. I couldn't walk the block without having to wipe. Not a day went by without wiping 3 to 4 times and my rear end was feeling the pain. After three fecal tests for everything from parasites to CDAD, and 8 months of constantly wiping and hours of searching the web for anything on the subject, my Girlfriend found this blog...Thank God!
I proud to say "Squishy Butt Syndrome" has been eliminated!!!!
Metamucil 3 times per day + 1 18 million or billion tablet of a refrigerated pro-biotic did the trick. 1 week after starting the pro-biotic I still had the problem, but it was greatly reduced. When I took my first days worth of Metamucil it vanished immediately and has not come back. It's been two weeks and all is good.
Metamucil is available everywhere and the refrigerated pro-biotics can be found in health food stores. What really makes me mad is that this apparently is a common after-effect to antibiotics, yet Kaiser would not disclose this fact and would not render the cure. Rather, they took the "Bill them till the drop "attitude and ran all kinds of expensive tests wasting my time and money. If you have "Squishy Butt Syndrome" and you did not take antibiotics, then go see a doctor ASAP.
One more thing: Probiotic yogurt will not help so do not waste your money.

I take it every day yet I can't remember the name. I do know it has 15 billion spores and needs to be refrigerated to keep them alive. I just went to my local health food store and asked for the probiotic section.
I'll make it a plan to jot down the name and get back with the answer tomorrow. Remember the Metamucil, it's really the key to this nightmare I believe. Weather is soaks up the discharge or allows the fecal matter to do it, it seems to work.

Jim, thanks for the response! I will give these a try!
I also wanted to ask, are you still using the probiotics after your condition was gone?
Also, how severe was your condition? Mine was occurring every single time after I have a bowel movement. I would get these itchy/burning feeling when I walked and it would get worse unless I wiped.

I'm still taking the pills and Metamucil.
My condition happened all day long every day and burned when I ate any onions or chili based products. If I bent over it happened. If I put any pressure on my gut it happened.
The Jury is still out, but at least I can keep it at bay. I'll write up my findings when my supply of probiotics is gone.

Hi everyone! Thank you all for being so brave and honest! I am so thankful to have found this website. My boyfriend has this leaky stool condition for 4 years now, I've been with him for the last year and a half. I love him dearly and want so bad to help him find a solution as many of you are doing. I am secretly reaching out for help for him, but I will confess to him soon that I am doing this. In fact, tonight for the last hour he has been running to the bathroom every 10 minutes or so. Ever since I've been with him, I've noticed this always seem to start at night when is he sleeping and lasts for a few hours. I had a feeling this was going to happen tonight because it always starts out with his tummy making funny sounds, growling and churning sounds. The frequency for him seems to be at least once or twice a month, at night. The smell though, is not "fishy" as many have described. It is extremely strong, because I have an extremely acute sense of smell, and permeates the entire room. It's never solid it is liquid. He's been to his doctor, at Kaiser, provided a stool sample and had blood works done and the results indicate that he is in good health. He is type 2 diabetic and is on cholesterol medication. At first I thought the cause were margarita drinks and Dr Pepper but turns out it's not. The last time he had leaky stool was at least 3 weeks ago, which is longer than usual. I am wondering if it has anything to do with a fatty diet, like, oily diet. It happened once when he ate pepperoni pizzas. He seemed to be fine for at least 3 weeks until I fed him spaghetti with ground beef and a garlic tomato sauce Wednesday night. Someone mentioned tomato sauce as a possible culprit. I am starting to wonder if that may be true. I will get to the bottom of this. I will create a dietary log and log everything he eats, the meds he takes, his immune system (if he has the cold, flu, etc) and see if I could detect some sort of pattern. I will also start him on Probiotics like some of you have suggested. If you have not already done so, please start a dietary record. I would love to compare notes and see if we all could get to the bottom of this mysterious condition.

I decided to test if I was cured, so I ate 2 Mexican meals over the weekend with Salsa, Jalapenos, and other Chili based products including rice and beans. Then I had Jalapeno poppers and BBQ chicken last night. So, basically I pigged out and drank like a fish (Blue Moon) and today I showed a very small sign of Squishy Butt by 10AM.
I firmly believe that eating chilies or anything made from chilies including tomatoes, uncooked onions, lemons or acidic products will irritate the intestine and produce squishy butt.
If it only took 10 days of antibiotics to destroy what good Flora I had built up over 51 years, then how long will it take to replenish that flora? I am still on my first jar of Probiotics and still pounding Metamucil twice daily. However, after three weeks of normalcy, to get it back after one weekend of gluttony, albeit a short time, tells me Its going to be a long road to recovery.

Just adding another experience here.
47-year-old male. I've had the discharge (not really smelly) for about a year and a half. Before that I had a bloody hemorrhoid that a colorectal surgeon repaired; before that I had lived with it for several weeks of wearing Depends and sitting on an inflatable donut (the surgeon said never to sit on one of those—it did feel like it was stretching my rectum, actually!). For quite a while before that I had always had a grinding bowel feeling during stressful situations (sometimes relieved with Imodium), and these days that happens more than ever, probably due to my worrying about the discharge. I also feel gassy and bloated a lot. I have a hiatal hernia (which a chiropractor once tried to cure by pushing down into my abdomen—not pleasant) and reflux, and I had my prostate removed in 2005 due to cancer (fine now, except a tiny bit of urine leakage). I've had groin pain mostly on the left for longer than that, although now it seems clear it's due to the bloating making my pants tight—I loosen them and it gets better. I've also been working out for the past year with a trainer.
Similar story about the discharge. If I have a "clean", solid bowel movement, it's not too bad, but more often than not, it comes out kind of gloppy and unpleasant. Wiping makes the irritation worse, and exposing it to the shower head, while it feels good at first, makes it sting and burn within a half hour. Cleaning the skin with my fingers in the shower irritates it too; pretty much anytime the skin is touched it's bad news. So, while it was really, really hard to cross this line, I got to the point where, after each bowel movement, I reach back with a couple of fingers and brush as lightly as possible through the hair in the area, trying not to yank on the hair (that makes it irritated too), but cleaning any matter out of there and wiping my fingers on toilet paper. I'll do this a few times, and usually that's it, unless it feels particularly bad: then I'll carefully dab a folded-over pad of toilet paper onto the inside of each cheek. If it's not completely clean, I've learned to just live with it, as long as it doesn't stain my underwear; but if it starts really stinging soon after, then I'll have to go back with my fingers again, and usually there are little remnants that weren't there before. (Of course, I vigorously wash my hands after these encounters!)
I've used Aquafor, which is like medicated Vaseline, if the sting just won't go away, but then it also feels very "swampy" back there. Other creams/ointments are irritating. I've found that I need to wear a belt, because if my pants scrunch down, my butt cheeks get pushed together, making everything worse. (A couple of times, I've taken walks, and had blood that I could feel before getting to a toilet and confirming it.)
The other day I finally went to my primary doctor and explained the problem (right before I went I found this thread). He did a rectal exam and said the hemorrhoid problem (internal) was pretty minor, and then he promptly wiped my butt vigorously with a tissue, inflaming everything again. (I also seem to have some kind of skin tag or something right over my anus in the crack, and something else on the lower middle right butt cheek, just for good measure.)
So he tells me that I have IBS, and that I need to take fiber and a probiotic, just as people here had said! I started the probiotic (a refrigerated one) tonight, and I think I'm going to see how that goes for a couple of days before starting the fiber in earnest. He suggested Konsyl, which I've never heard of, but I'm not sure what form to take it in, or if I should just do Metamucil (other fiber supplements I've tried have made my stools too loose and unpleasant).

I have had the problem all my life. I am 48 now. I believe it is food allergies and food sensitivities. Tomato sauce and carbs & dairy . I am surprised that nobody mentioned wheat gluten. When I was on a wheat free diet & dairy free diet it went away 100%. I do feel coffee is an irritant as well. If you are sensitive to wheat it only takes a tiny amount of contamination to cause a problem. Wheat is in everything & contamination can be easy. You have to read about it & educate yourself and be prepared not to eat common tasty foods anymore because the gluten or in some people the yeast from the carbs are slowly killing you. Wheat has been altered over the last 50 years and is not the same plant our parents , parents consumed. They have been bio engineered & our bodies are not adopted to digest it properly. Could lead to colon cancer & crons , celliac IBS and yes leaky fluids among a million other things which could be heading towards disease. Your body is responding to food allergies. You need to listen to it. You should find out which Gluten you are allergic to because all grain contains its own signature protein Gluten. Usually wheat is primary with many but corn & barley & oats can all be trouble. Healthy alternatives could be potatoes & rice but you need to be on the lookout for contamination. I still have trouble only because I cheated again with dairy & wheat and when combined with tomato sauce the problem comes back and stays back for a couple of days until I go Gluten free , a rice based diet with no dairy or tomato sauce. The red sauce is a big problem as well I am wondering if there is some bio engineering going on with the sauce or is it just the acid in the sauce. Rice is not gluten free but is ok with me . I hope this helps.

Yes, I've had this problem for a few years, no solutions whatsoever. But I will use TP or kleenex folded to absorb until leaking has subsided. Obviously not a solution, but sure helps me avoid countless embarrassing moments. Hopefully that helps. No need to soil undergarments and leave streaks on car seats.
Sad, really, that doctors have no clue what this is.

Still going to the doctor, and he has just been prescribing me cream after cream, which is getting very annoying! I do have one hemorrhoid that he injected to make it fall off, this failed (i think because he missed the injection point into the vein).
Well yesterday was the worst leakage I have ever had and it wasn't after a movement, it was random right before sleep. Now the entire area is inflamed and the buttocks around it are dried out, red and bumpy, i guess from the irritation?
I just want this to go away already, it's interfering with my exercise routines and social life

I tried taking just the probiotic for several days, but nothing seemed to change except a bit less pressure in the abdominal area, so I finally went to the pharmacy yesterday and got the (generic) Konsyl powder. It's like Metamucil, but more concentrated, so you take less. I took the first dose last night, and this morning I had the healthiest bowel movement in recent memory. Pardon the graphic description, but it actually started out at one end looking dark and nasty, and ended up smooth and healthy. Unreal. However, the night before, I had had leakage exactly like HelpMePlease describes, and there's been some residue left over from that, so today wasn't a complete success, but at least 75% better so far. Still troubled by gas and bloating, plus roughness from blotting the leakage, but I did go to the gym and everything went fine there (it usually does, but a few weeks ago, on my own, I had leakage that I could feel while doing pushups, and it was a mess when I got home—this is what finally drove me to go to the doctor).
And yes, I do suspect food sensitivities or intolerances in this. I have many seasonal and environmental allergies, and my body seems to react to almost anything I eat: dairy, salads, bread, spicy foods, etc. (I'm a thin guy, by the way.) I've had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, barium swallow, abdominal MRI, and more (mostly in 2010), but now I've got another endoscopy coming (they contacted me!), and I'm trying to get them to screen for Celiac. Too early to tell, of course, but if this fiber supplement can control the leakage, I'll happily continue with that, rather than give up all kinds of foods I like. Around the time of the previous round of tests, I cut alcohol out almost completely, and I did feel generally a lot better, so that's another possible strategy, as someone else has also posted.
One thing I haven't noticed anyone mention specifically, but I have had a lot of trouble sitting on soft cushions, leather couches, that kind of thing. It feels like my rear is being ripped apart. Hoping I'm on my way to a solution now.
