Hello, just a short post. I had the same problem for about a year and I went to the doctor who began by telling me to take in more fiber, so I began taking fiber supplements both non-psyllium and psyllium. I found this thread two weeks ago and have been taking Florajen-3 for about a week. Within 2-3 days, my bowel movements had returned to normal. I was going about once every 3 days, I'm now going about once a day and the stool is no longer messy, but hard (not in a constipated sort of way). I'm finally not using half the roll when I go. For anyone who is having this problem, I highly recommend trying Florajen-3, as other users mentioned. It's a probiotic that may be difficult to find, but if you go the company's website (http://www.florajen.com/locator.cfm - I don't work for them and am in no way affiliated with them) they will help you find stores that carry. When I went to the pharmacy they needed to order it since they did not carry it in-stock, so you might want to consider calling in before-hand.

I just thought about something and it sort of follows what the other user mentioned. Since we are suffering from what seems to be a yeast infection that was promoted after taking antibiotics, we should dose ourselves with probiotics. So instead of taking the instructed amount, I am going to take 2X the normal amount just to see if it works. I figured the instructed amount is for "normal" individuals, which we aren't since we have this condition. Always consult with your doctor if you are unsure about taking a lot of probiotics but it seems to be harmless from what I read online. I started refrigerated probiotics a few days ago and will report back after a week or so. Also taking equate fiber therapy lightly since my stool is normal anyways.

I've been on the millions of refrigerated probiotics for 7 weeks now plus metamucil. I don't believe probiotic yogurt works so don't wast your money. Yogurt need to be heated to kill the bacterial before it's sold to the consumer and the probiotics are killed along the way as well..

Bottom line: If I stay away from Chili (Capsaicin) "The active component of chili peppers, which are plants belonging to the genus Capsicum. It is an irritant for mammals, including humans, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact" Then all is fine and no squishy butt.

If 7 days of Antibiotics can kill the good bacteria to the point of squishy butt, then how much probiotics does one need to take and for how long until this problem is solved? At this point I have ingested trillions upon trillions of the little buggers and yet still get Squishy Butt from time to time. I don't think I have a yeast infection as I have no itching or redness or swelling at all

I took refrigerated probiotics once a day for two weeks, and then Florastor twice a day for one week.  I'm sure they did some good, but nothing began to improve with my condition until I started the fiber powder (generic Konsyl, for its bulking quality).  Until a few days ago, I was throwing a teaspoon into 8 ounces of water, but that was a chore to get down, and I think it may have contributed to my gassy output (all that gulping?)—so now I'm following advice I read elsewhere, just mixing it into an ounce or two, chugging it down, and then following that with 8 ounces of water.  More pleasant, anyway.

I went to the dermatologist last week, since the problem was still not nearly solved, and she said it doesn't look like any kind of rash, so she doubts that it's food-intolerance-related.  She said the perianal skin had broken down from irritation, and she gave me two ointments: a jock itch cream (which is supposed to take care of a yeast infection, although she's not sure that's there either), and a 1% hydrocortisone ointment.  So far, the problem is that it still feels "squishy", but that's because of the ointments—the positive is that the irritation is reduced, and there seems to be less leakage, and of course the main idea is to calm the skin irritation and build up healthy skin.  Follow-up next week.

Follow-up to my post above:

By the time I got back to the dermatologist, things were improving, but not at a dramatic pace.  She said to keep using the ointments and the fiber powder.  Meanwhile, I had an endoscopy, and they found no Celiac, but the doctor told me to use the probiotic Align, plus Citrucel on top of the psyllium powder I was already taking.

This was probiotic #3 for me, so I was skeptical, but within a few days things improved dramatically.  Almost no irritation or leakage, so I tapered off the ointments down to nothing, and as of today I can finally wipe without consequences!  (The only other thing I did was some hair trimming around that area—not a huge amount, but who knows, that may have helped too.)

I never did get around to adding the Citrucel, so I guess that was unnecessary.  As for the probiotics, I've heard that different ones work for different people, so apparently that's true!

So behindit... It's been over a week since your lat post, you still OK down there? I've been dealing with this same issue for over two years and tried two different probiotics as well.Do you think the yeast ointment helped or do you think the new probiotic was your cure?

Not totally cured, but still much better than it had been.  I can't even be sure what was the tipping point, but I'm kind of leaning toward the ointments.  The key is keeping the area as clean as possible, and if you're applying ointment a couple times a day, that's helping to clean any matter away as well as soothing the skin and possibly clearing up infections.  I'm still kind of experimenting, but I'm still taking the probiotic once a day, the powder twice, and applying just a little of the jock itch cream occasionally.

My dermatologist actually called me last night to see how I was doing (when does a doctor ever do that!?), and she urged me to get examined down there by the gastroenterologist, even though I told her I had made good progress.

Hope this helps, bopperg.  I'll report more when/if something significant happens.

I am the same. My condition is better but it still occurs although to a much lesser extent. I've gone through florastor, culturelle, and renew and haven't seen that much of an improvement. What really helps me is the fiber therapy pills that I take after each meal. It decreases the amount that is discharged even though it's a laxative? Weird. I guess most of us are SOL for life on this issue. Better stock up on my fiber pills!

I have come to the conclusion that the probiotics help, but very little. It's the fiber intake that controls everything. If I miss my Metamucil for just 1 morning, it comes back by noon. This is also true when I have consumed salsa or chilies.  When I stay away from salsa/chilies and keep to the program, it stays away. However, this is far from acceptable. After taking trillions of probiotics and a few jars of metamucil I am still suffering now and again.  For those who forgot,  my problem started after a 10 day dose of powerful antibiotics almost 1 year ago.

All I know is having this issue SUCKS! I've been ingesting 25-30 grams of fiber everyday mainly from food(not supplements, which let me tell you,is not easy) for over 6 weeks.I also tried using the metamucil pills for a couple of those weeks with no change.I tried florastor and a CVS brand  multi strain probiotic with the same results.I looking into the probiotic angle and the 2 I've tried contain different strains altogether so,I'll try the align and see how that goes. Align is made soley of  Bifantis (Bifidobacterium infantis 35624) which the others do not have and I think,as behindit mentioned, probioticcs affect people differently and different strains may have totally different outcome(I hope).  I'll post back in a couple of weeks and tell how it goes ,Thanx for the info guys.

I am a 62 yr old female and have been having this same problem for last nine months. I also am fit for my age, or was, until this condition struck. Have also had tests and seems nothing wrong internally so, why does this leak keep occurring. I eat healthily and exercise every day. I thought i was the only one with this problem and was embarrassed initially. Seems no one really knows what is causing problem. SL

I have been following this thread for 12 months now as I have the discharge problem.

Metamusil has proved to be the only real solution for me. I take 1 or 2 teaspoons in warm water each day. If I go off the metamusil, the problem returns in 48 hours.

Hey peoples, I'm a 42 year old male and I experience the exact same thing, OMG I thought I may be the only one on earth with this bizzar problem. I have been experiencing these post bowel evacuation symptoms for about three years now. I am an otherwise perfectly fit and healthy man. I go to the gym five times a week, I bench press 110 killograms (about 245 pounds) I can run a marathon and I'm really perplexed as to why this is happening to me. I am not gay so I don't do anal sex. And I have the exact same post evacuation leakage as most of what guys have been saying. I have a bowel movement and 20 minutes to half an hour later I feel my anus getting itchy and I need to scratch. I go to the bathroom and find that I need to wipe some fecal matter mixed with some fluid that has seeped or leaked out without me even noticing. However, for me, it only happens once after I have eaten an oil based food. Whether its fried rice, or any deep fried foods from KFC, deep fried fish or chicken, I even get the symptoms if I take fish oil tablets. There seems to be a pattern with oil and oily foods. Any kind of oil. This does not happen with any other type of food. Only oily foods. I don't know what to do, thanks to the people who have suggested garlic and cranberry juice, I will be definitely trying this. I thought this problem may be caused by gall stones blocking the release of bile from the gall bladder which is not emulsifying the oils and fats I eat. But I don't have any of the classic signs of cholicystitis. I also started thinking about pancreatitis, because the pancreas is involved in upper GI tract digestion and the release of pancreatic lipase to break down fats and oils, but once again I do not have the hall mark signs of pancreatitis So I am really lost and I don't know what to do. I feel if I go to the doctor he will recommend tests and investigations that will cost me a fortune and lots of time off work which will lead to nowhere without a diagnosis. I'm thinking if i see a specialist Gastroenterologist, I might get somewhere. Anyway, lets keep these conversations and advice from people going. Thanks guys
