Mike, et. al. I have the same symptoms and my doctor said it was a type of hernia - I can't remember the fancy name. He did say that they are common, particularly with older men and are usually left alone unless they cause other symptoms. If you have any doubt, have it checked out.
I have it too...its always been there but I lost weight and have been lifting weights...and its sore and more noticable...if you lift and hurt it or exercise and do new things it strains it. Its normal its called the xiphoid bone...it belongs there! also hernia is possible...funny I just showed my mom tonight with the same question...of course I lifted for 2 hours at the gym! So it hurts and is sticking out...hope this helps someone...
I'm 14 and when I lay on my left side, the left side of my rib cage moves onto the other side slightly and I sometimes have to push it back into place. When i push it back into place or when I am just trying to see what is causing this, i feel a small lump the size of a little bouncy ball on the left side of my rib cage. Before these weird experiences, when I would bend over to pick something up my chest and back would lock up simultaneously midway through bending over. This is not fun. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow so I'm hoping this all gets cleared up and that it's nothing major.
Sincerely,
Megan
It's the xiphoid bone at the base of the sternum. From wikipedia - "After age 40, a person may become aware of their partially ossified xiphoid process and mistake it for an abnormality.[1]"
I am a almost 13 year old girl.... I have a rubber like egg sized ball that feels like a bone under my right growing breast, I don't want to mention in to my mum, it's awkward and I'm worried, I don't think it's cancer because its extremely rare for an under 30 to get breast cancer, I'm really worried and it started hurting two days ago before I went on holiday... If was wondering why it was hurting, when we came back off of the short 2 day holiday, it hurt again, I itched my breast and it seemed I be a lump, when I got home - I know it sounds weird - I tried to examine it and I was led to the description above.. I don't know what to do, any help?
The doctor said if it hurts that's good. Most cancerous lumps are acttually painless.
He said it is likely the beggining of early puberty as breast tissue normally starts growing one side before the other.
I would also say tell your mum! Go to the docs with her to make doubly sure for your own peace of mind!
