I am a nineteen year old boy, in otherwise good health; good eating habits, avid physical activity, no persitent illnesses, etc... Over the last few months, I have noticed that my right testicle has enlarged to a point that concerns me, becaus it is at least twice the size of the left (directions are from my perspective). The right testicle is smooth, that is without bumps, and somewhat oblong. I have an active sex life, and have not experienced any irregular difficulty or pain ejaculating. In fact, I have, over the last year, as most boys of my age, experienced a dramatic increase of sex drive. I am wondering if this is part of the normal sexual development that occurs in 18-23 year old boys, perhaps exaggerated by all of the funny hormones in my meat and dairy heavy diet, or if I should be worried. Testicular cancer? An STD? Injury?
I wouldn’t say you have an STD, at least no signs are indicating it. However, STD’s are often asymptomatic, so if you had any unprotected intercourses it would be wise to have it checked.
Increase in the sex drive is perfectly normal. After all, you are 19! I had an amazing sex drive then but it decreases over the years (not in all men though). Your hormones are raging and the increased libido is not something you should worry about unless it is getting in a way of your other daily activities.
Now, about the testicular swelling… It is crucial that you have this checked. Any swelling should be examined to rule out tumors. Any swelling could indicate tumor. It doesn’t have to mean that it is a tumor, it could be a cyst called hydrocele. This is a fluid filled cyst that causes no trouble but sometimes the swelling can become annoying, so that the cyst needs to be removed.
Once again, make an appointment with a doc to examine the swelling.
