Well this might be a bit graphic, but how deep and fast has your husband inserted his penis before? With him being on top (and I'm assuming from your post this is a new thing for you guys) he might be pushing a little deeper than you're used to. This is normal if you're usually the more dominant partner during sex, as you have more control over penetration.
