I am 21 years old and have had an IUD for about 2 years now. I have never been pregnant.
For 2 days now I have had extreme menstrual cramping, which started in the lower back yesterday and today has spread so now it's felt in the lower right abdomen, lower back, vulvar area, and upper legs. NEVER before have I experienced cramping before my period. In the past when I have felt cramping, it's been on days 2 and 3 of my 6-day-long period. This is starting to concern me since there has been absolutely NO bleeding.
I'm wondering if it might have something to do with my IUD? Or if it could possibly be a pregnancy sign? My periods are typically relatively regular, occurring every 20-28 days. It has been 27 days since my last period.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Thank you!

It could just be a period presenting in a way that isn't normal for you, but it could also be a pelvic infection. I'm always a bit cautious about women with an IUD, as the older ones used to cause trouble with infections. To be honest the modern types should be fine, but even so, it would probably be best to get this checked out by a doctor (unless it's already settled since you posted this message)
