My girlfriend was stretching this morning. She placed her hands on her ribs, a few inches beneath her breasts, as she usually does. However, she noticed something odd today.

There was a fleshy lump, a texture she described as "like cartilage", about the size of a pea on her upper-right abdominal muscle, near her ribcage. When she pushed and poked for a bit, it felt like the area was bruised. Every so often thereafter, it would spike her side with a burst of pain throughout the day. Sometimes this pain would be somewhat strong, other times rather weak. Sometimes it would last for a second or two, other times it would fade out over a couple of minutes.

I looked at her abdomen and noticed nothing out of the ordinary. No discoloration or bruising, nothing noticeable under the skin. It never bothered her before and she hadn't noticed it before this morning. She claims that she didn't bump into anything or get hit by anything, so this is a bit of a mystery. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
I have the same problem and it is continuing to expand. I have no idea what it is. I keep thinking maybe liver cancer, but everyone says I'm a hypokondriac (spelling) - anyway - if anyway has any ideas let us know.
