Hello! I am 15 and my brother is 16. He was found to have an eye disease called Uvetis. He was having some strange problems with lights and was seeing floating worms for quite some time but he didn’t want to see a doc because he thought it wasn’t cool enough. I am very scared now because I heard this disease may lead to blindness. Is there a permanent cure and how come that he got it when he is only 16?

Your brother was probably lucky enough to experience some of the symptoms, so that he could react on them. Some people don’t have any symptoms and realize they have the problem when it is too late and when damage has already been done. I hope this is not the case with your brother. This disease is rare but can affect anyone even young children. It is not really known what causes this disease, there are only speculations and there is no permanent cure. The treatment differs depending of which part of the Uvea is inflamed. The goal of the treatment is to relieve the pain, prevent sight loss and treat the cause if it is known. As I said there is no permanent cure, but it can be stabilized.
