This just started happening to me and I'm 45. It mostly is only after my period now. No smell. Very thick like wet toilet paper, pasty, clumpy discharge. Makes me feel dried out. I think probiotics make it worse. I think it is too much good bacteria (lactobacilis) and also a ph problem. Things that help are fill a gel cap with baking soda- insert for bedtime. Wear a pad. It might run out. Hopefully can get rid of it all together. Going to make sure no endometriosis, cervical erosion problems or another BV. But be careful with probiotics and kambucha etc!

Hi all, been following this thread since 2012. I've posted what worked for me before. I will post again as so many new people have commented recently: As a lesbian, it allowed me to rule out quite a number of things. First you should : 1. Go to the doctor. They can run tests and determine what it may be and rule out any STDs or infections. 2. Take the medication they give youIf that doesn't work (my doctor THOUGHT I had a yeast infection but it didn't show up in the tests) I'd follow some of the advice here with the essential oils and coconut oil. 3. Don't douche your vagina with anything, this will just make it worse, despite what some of the comments on here say I made my own concoction of melted coconut oil + a cocktail of: Clary Sage, Geranium, tea tree oil (not too much!), Palmarosa, Frankensence, Rose Geranium, lavender, and Myrrh. Use clean fingers, apply inside and outside the vagina/labia. Loose clothing, no underwear at night, drink plenty of water. I also started using a menstrual cup instead of pads/tampons. There's some good posts on page 24 and earlier check those out https://www.steadyhealth.com/vaginal_discharge___thick_white__not_a_yeast_infection___aff_t134528.html?page=24

i just started going through this after starting Xulane birth control patch. i thought it was yeast so i treated with otc treatments or diflucan. I also struggled with UTIs almost every month, so i figured the antibiotics were causing the "yeast". I tasted the discharge one day and noticed it was very bitter....almost sour like. I wasnt itching or burning. After using the treatments:

Peroxide douche- cleared for a day or 2 but came back

Boric Acid (vaginally; 1 cap inserted nightly for 7 days - Cleared it all up, but after sex the discharge and taste came back

OTC yeast treatment & Diflucan - Cleared it all up, but after sex the discharge came back

Probiotics (vaginally) - helped but didnt clear everything up; caused UTI

So i went to the gyn with concernes that it was yeast but wouldnt go away and she said that the hormones from the BC were probably causing the changes. She said its not a major concern it wasnt itching, burning, a different color or smelling. She took a culture for yeast and tested for everything else and it came back negative.

I'm tripping at this point. She said that after sex the semen can disrupt the vaginal flora and change the discharge. I left and starting searching google. Found out A LOT of females are having this problem and tried the same things I had been trying. Only thing i didnt try was Baking Soda douche. Saw someone mention that as a treatment for Cytolytic vaginosis which can be confused with a yeast infection. In this case its an overgrowth of lactobacilli rather that an overgrowth of yeast.

Anyway, it made sense to me that I could have an overgrowth of latobacilli. Maybe between the hormones from my BC and my partners semen PH level, thats what is causing it. Says the lactobacilli like an acidic environment and will overgrow with higher PH levels.

I tried the Baking Soda this morning. It thinned out the discharge so that it can leave my body (finally...it was so damn thick) and it took away the sour taste (yes I tasted myself lol). It says you should do it 2 times a week every 2 weeks. We'll see how it works after intercourse though. I think its worth a try though. 1 -2 tablespoons in a douche filled with warm water. Hope it helps.

Hi. I just read your post right through and was wondering if you knew that a vaginal douche can actually do more harm than good because it changes the natural ph in the vagina and it also destroys the natural bacteria that live there. How long have you been using a douche and how long have you had your troubles for?

I am 14 and I also get really thick, white, bitter tasting discharge when I masturbate. I don't want to tell anyone, but I am so relieved that other people have the same problem.

I've just recently started having a thick, dry, discharge (within the last week). It's not really on my panties or anything... just when I put a clean finger up there to check it out in the shower. Honestly what I'm assuming it is is my new boyfriend. I don't believe it to be any STI, but I know his semen at first was more acidic tasting than any other guy I've been with. I'm wondering if it's possible that his precum or whatever is upsetting my vagina on occasion as I've never had issues before for no apparent reason. However, I did miss my period last week - but 2 pregnancy tests show as negative... so I assumed that it was missed due to stress (still haven't gotten it yet).

Hi everyone, I must have read everyone's responses because I'm having an identical problem! Thick clumpy vaginal discharge that doesn't even come out, but when I masterbate or stick my fingers in I can find it. I went to the Gyno today and tried to explain the problem as well as this message board and how nobody knows what's wrong. From what I gather, my estrogen levels might be low from birth control. I have been using an IUD for 14 months now and my problem has existed for around 6 months. The dr thinks perhaps my uterine walls and constantly shedding due to either the birth control or low estrogen. She prescribed a low dosage hormone for estrogen for me to try. Just wanted to share. Hope some of you others can figure it out too.

I started having this problem after I miscarried a year ago. My bf at the time gave me bv by having sex with me and another girl around the same time. It was treated with antibiotics which gave me a yeast infection which was then treated by diflucin (sp. I then started taking baths in vinegar water and I never really noticed the problem anymore. a few months ago I had unprotected sex and took the plan b. And since then the problem has returned except it won't go away and it getting much worse. It's not an std because the guy was a virgin. I recently started being sexually active again and it is so embarrassing. It looks like toilet paper clumps. It amazes me that know one knows what exactly this is.

Omg.reading you all is making me cry. Seriously. I've been searching for ANYTHING about this for over 6 months on the Internet and NADA. It's the first time I see people describing the exact same thing I've been going through. The icky sticky discharge that is creamy white and that peels off when you rub some on your fingers... Coming and going all month 'round. I've tried everything as well : flagyl 3 times, prevegyn, tea tree oil, pro b, pre b, and so on... Sometimes it leaves me alone for a few days but then it comes back and sometimes I feel like my vagina is, unlike others', not self cleaning and that this is why those discharge become sticky and eeky. Also, if I don't rinse they start smelling bad. I thought this was because of my cooper that I've had for 2 years... Cause I didn't have this problem as long as I was taking Yaz. It started as I stopped hormonal bc. I've seriously been spending so much money and those but your suggestion looks like it might work, I'll try that tomorrow. I keep wondering what's wrong with me, I feel ashamed, and like every woman around is better since they don't have that... I feel like crying.

I was on depo for 10 yrs & have been off it since April, so no birth control & no condoms, as I have been with hubby 10 yrs. Mine isn't constant, but the lat 5 days or so, it's this thick, almost clumpy, white discharge & I feel dry. My discharge is usually thinner & cloudy white. Have been tested for every STD, STI, & infection....nothing. The only reason it was noticed is I pay attention to cervical mucus discharge as we're TTC. I've ALWAYS used my finger to "clean out" discharge with just warm water....so those saying douching with water causes this are incorrect, as I've been doing so for 10 yrs(although, everyone IS different & some more sensitive than others). In fact, I use to ALWAYS have BV...until I started doing this. This is recent for me....so thinking it might have something to do with estrogen/progesterone levels, as mine are still trying to level out after having them suppressed/artificially controlled for 10 yrs.

I have had the same symptoms for over a year now. But what finally cured mine was baking soda. Just get some empty gel capsules and fill them with baking soda and use it as a vaginal suppository. Some say it Burns but it didn't for me and after one capsule a day for three days my thick white bitter discharge was gone.
