Im taking 2 a day to start off with (one in the morning one at night) then going to go down to 1 a day. they are 500mg a piece. Good luck. and baby dust to all..
I know this post is old but I was wondering about something. You said u take Vitex from GNC...I just bought some today in hopes to control my severe PMS symptoms and (self diagnosed) PCOS anywho, on the bottom of the gnc bottle it says menopause support. Does yours say that also? I'm wondering if it's still ok to take? I'm 27 years old so i dont really need anything for menopause!
oh and can you tell us if you've had any luck with it? How about any side effects? I want to start taking this but i'm nervous even though i've heard good things about it...the menopause part throws me off!

PCOS is the term used to describe a woman who doesn't ovulate consistently on a regular basis on her own even though there are plenty of eggs left in her ovaries. When women get older and get to age 50 +/- and the body is running out of eggs and so doesn't ovulate consistently anymore, then it becomes menopause.
The symptoms are basically the same... lack of ovulation, though the age is one difference in menopause and the lack of eggs left in the ovaries, with PCOS, the body isn't balanced (whether it is due to glucose sensitivity or leptin sensitivity and so the eggs aren't getting released for whatever reason. The Vitex helps the body to let the egg get released and therefore increase the progesterone so that the body stays more in balance with estrogen to progesterone ratio.
I’ve been taking Vitex for a few months now and I have noticed a difference. I go to OB-Gyn on the 6th day after I think I’ve ovulated to get a blood test done and have confirmed that I did ovulate based on my progesterone levels.
Don’t worry about the menopause word on the bottle. The most important thing is to get yourself in balance again. Good luck and hope this helps!
Good luck to yourself and hope you have sweet success in balancing yourself out as well!

hello everyone this is my first time blogging, well i am 28 years old and been married for almost 2 years. last year january i was ttc but nothing... i try for 6months nothing again, then i decided to go to the gyn cause, also my period was never regular it has never been regular and i notice it when i was like 16 but i ignore the problem thinking that im still young and nothing is wrong, i would see my period 4 or 5 times for the year, some times they were heavy some they were light and few times i seen my period for a whole month (i was stressing out at that point) anyway last year i decided to see a gyn and tell him about my problems that im having and i want to ttc so he did all the test on me everything came back normal then he decide he gonna do a ultra sound and thats when he found that i have follicles around my eggs (confuse faceo.O what is follicles) didnt have clue what he was saying to me, then he said i have pcos, then he said if i want to ttc he will try me on clomid. new to all this i said yes, i was excited and everything so he put me on 50mg that didn't work, so he up it to 100mg, i think i did ovulate cause my side was hurting for like 2days but still didn't get pg so i went to 150mg that never work either, so i was thinking, what am i doing wrong, i follow the directions and nothing happen so i decided to give clomid a break cause i was tired of the side effects, i didn't take anything for awhile, i got my period one month and i wouldnt stop bleeding and it came heavy with clots so went back to gyn and he told me my linning is thick for he did a dnc and put me on birth control pills untill the bleeding stop, he also gave me an option if i want the birth control or progesterone pills well i choose progesterone since im ttc i been on it for like 4months now my period comes every month and on time and its lighter and only last 4 or 5 days. i started reading blogs cuz i didn't want to take anymore meds and i came across alot of people who have pcos taking vitex so i decided to try it, its been a month now since im on it, i have not seen my period for this month, im waiting to see if my period gonna come this month i am only on vitex (i have the gnc brand 500mg) the bottle say one a day but im taking 1000mg just to kick start my system and also prenatal vitamins from walgreens, 2 days ago i seen brown spot but it went away so im hoping the vitex will work for me. I really do want a baby........................Can vitex alone balance out my system or do i need some thing else
There is no cure for PCOS. Yes, you can most definitely control your symptoms to the point that you have regular AFs, loose weight, and have success when TTC. By changing your lifestyle to a healthier way of living you will see major results. Vitex works great, I've been on it for about a year and i get my AF regularly. I've had PCOS since i was about 11 years old, and my symptoms worsened by the age of 20. I gained about 50 lbs in one year and had several trips to the ER due to a hemorrhage or ruptured cyst. Also, I grew a ridiculous amount of hair on my face, neck & chest. It can get really difficult for me to feel good about myself when i look in the mirror sometimes. But staying positive, having a good support system & motivation to better your health, is the key to success. I highly recommend Vitex, it truly is a miracle all NATURAL pill. Also, you may want to look into other supplements to target your other symptoms; Saw Palmetto, Maca Root, Black Cohosh, Don Qui, Evening Primrose. Good Luck to all my fellow Cysters, i wish you all baby dust <3
I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago. I'm 26 years old. 5'3" and 105 lbs. Obviously, I'm not over weight. Before I was diagnosed, I wasn't having a period at all... for a full year! I had been on birth control most of my life to try and regulate my cycle but with little success.
I was put on Metformin, which made my stomach feel horrible. They then put me on a progesterone pill, I started spotting, almost everyday and then on top of that I would have a regular period. I tried Provera, but also had severe spotting after the first month!
I was also on spirnolactone for my hair because my hair has thinned out dramatically (due to the elevated level of testosterone in my body). But I stopped taking the spirnolactone because I thought it could be the cause of spotting, but it wasn't. I'm still on a progesterone pill but spot almost every day and although by hair has improved, it is still pretty thin.
The GYN says it's normal to spot like this. How can spotting almost everyday be good for you??? I have been to so many doctors who tell me the same thing. It's so depressing.
I will try vitex, but I have been doing a lot of research on different types of herbs that are suppose to help with PCOS and there are SO many. HAS ANYONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN HAVING? IF SO, HAVE YOU FOUND A GOOD HERB OR TREATMENT???
Here are some the herbs that are suppose to help with PCOS
Omega blend Eating essential fatty acids (EFA’s) helps you to lose weight, produce balanced hormones, and creates a healthy environment for conception. EFA’s have been shown to support hormonal balance and production.
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) Maca works to balance the estrogen and progesterone in the body, for a healthy menstrual cycle. Maca is an adaptogen and an incredible fertility superfood. It helps to balance the hormones, but does not contain any hormones itself. It is able to do this by nourishing and balancing the endocrine system.
Vitex (Vitex agnus-castus) Vitex Extract (Chaste Tree Berry) is one of the most powerful herbs for women’s menstrual health. There are numerous studies and testimonials of Vitex and it’s effects on the body. One of the reasons Vitex is so effective for women who are not ovulating due to PCOS, is because of its ability to balance hormones while not containing hormones itself. Vitex supports hormonal balance in the body by having an effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis (hormonal feedback loop), correcting the problem at the source.
Tribulus (Tribulus terrestris) May normalize ovulation in infertile women when used prior to ovulation. This herb has been found to be wonderful in aiding women with menstrual irregularities, improving timing of the entire menstrual cycle. Tribulus has also been found to be a nourishing tonic for the female reproductive system as a whole, especially concerning the ovaries.
White Peony (Paeonia lactiflora) and Licorice Rt. (Glycyrrhiza glabra) Most clinical trials have found that when White Peony is combined with Licorice Rt., it performs better, especially for relaxing muscles, reducing painful menstruation, as well as lowering serum and free testosterone levels in women with PCOS. Natural Progesterone Cream Progesterone cream can help to oppose the estrogen dominance that occurs with PCOS. By using progesterone cream you are able to mimic a natural cycle and help the body to establish its own cycle, including ovulating, again. Dr. John Lee believed that with progesterone cream, changes to the PCOS specific diet and exercise, PCOS could become obsolete.
Healthy Estrogen Metabolism
DIM DIM balances the hormones and aids in the breakdown of estrogen. Estrogen is a major culprit to many of the fertility issues women face today including PCOS. Unopposed estrogen has been shown to cause menstrual cycle irregularities and in more advanced cases, endometrial hyperplasia. Removal of excess estrogen is vital to overall hormonal balance in women with PCOS.
Dandelion root: A great liver tonic! This helps cleanse your liver and remove the build up and toxins that accumulate. A lot of menstrual problems/infertility issues are made worse because the excess hormones tend to “back up” in your liver. Dandelion Root will help keep your liver working properly which will help it rid your body of all the excess “crud” you don’t need. It can also help control and possibly prevent NASLD.
Milk Thistle A key herb for the liver; one that is so important for the treatment of PCOS. Milk Thistle helps your liver cells against damage, and promotes healing of damaged cells. This improves the overall function of your liver (Extremely beneficial in the control or prevention of NASLD)
Hirsutism (Male Pattern Hair Growth, a.k.a. excess facial and/or body hair) and Elevated Testosterone Levels: Many women with PCOS often have elevated levels of testosterone which is converted into DHT. DHT is what stimulates the male pattern hair growth, and male pattern hair loss. Reducing the DHT in your body can help reduce the excess facial/body hair, as well as acne/oily skin and thinning hair (or male pattern hair loss) you may be experiencing.
Saw Palmetto This herbal remedy stops the production of, and helps breakdown DHT. It has also been shown to have anti-estrogenic effects. (Anti-estrogenic means countering the excess estrogen. Women with PCOS often have higher estrogen levels. These elevated levels can stop the elimination of DHT) Saw Palmetto; in addition to reducing the overall levels of testosterone/DHT, has been shown to regulate your estrogen levels. This can further assist in the regulation/removal of the excess DHT, regulate your hormones, increase your labido, and help with weight loss.
White Peony Tea This has been shown to positively influence low progesterone, as well as reduce elevated androgens (testosterone) and acts to regulate estrogen and prolactin levels
There are natural therapies that can support the optimum functioning of your system as quickly and thoroughly as possible. The natural remedies such as OM 24, female liquesence, Hyponidd, M 2 tone are most effective for PCOS.
