I have Von Willebrand's disease and therefore have very irregular periods, like once every 6 months and sometimes even longer than that. I was wondering if ovulation is occurring or not. I just want to know if I am able to have a baby or not. I also have no idea when I would be able to test for pregnancy since I am not able to use my periods as a guide. I am extremely bloated and have a couple other symptoms but a home pregnancy test has come out negative and so has a blood test. I read about a woman who did not test positive until she was six weeks along though...Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Hey i have von willebrand disease too and before when i was first diagnosed i went to the hospital and i was on birth control pills for about 2 years. birth control pills control the bleeding. after the 2 years my bleeding was normal i no longer bleed for more then 7 days. go to the hospital and check which vonwillebrand you have because theres the ones that are serious or the ones where it feels like u dont even have vonwillebrand.
I have von Willebrand as well, but I was not diagnosed until after my second child came along. During his birth, the doctors were not able to stop the bleeding, and I wound up having a blood transfusion. THAT'S when they decided to test me for it. I apparently have had it my whole life, but never knew. I always wondered why my periods were so heavy, especially since I'm a very small person.
So in answer to your question - you should have no problem getting pregnant, but make sure that your hematologist talks to you OB before birth to prevent any life-threatening situations from arising.
Good luck!!

I have von Willebrand. I've known since i was about 5 years old. I used to have frequent nose bleeds alot when i was little and i've slowly grown out of it. Im 20 years old now. and when i found out i was told i'd die at a young age, not be able to play sports, my period would kill me and all sorts of other things. Growing up i was always scared of that but considering i've gotten past it i figured everything was great. I found out June 19th that i was pregnant. went to OB appointment and everything was fine until i got to see a fetal specialist because of von Willebrand. They told me theirs a high risk of me bleeding to death having the baby and a c-section is just as risky. Now i am not a selfish person in any way. but i was wondering if anyone else was told this being pregnant and didnt have a problem. I dont want to terminate my pregnancy for selfish reasons, but i also dont want to leave the father of my child alone to raise a kid.
I have just been thinking alot lately and freaking out alot over.
any advice?

I had 2 babies and I have the disease. The 1st baby I hadn't been diagnosed yet and I ended up with a "period" for over a year, then they diagnosed me and put that bleeding to a stop. The 2nd pregnancy I was considered high risk because of the disease. I was carefully monitored and administered a shot to stop the bleeding immediately after the birth. Everything went fine, with no excess bleeding. You do not need to terminate.
I dealt with periods that were beyond most normal people's beliefs and people always thought I was exaggerating. My mom knew that it was not something to mess around with because she, her only two sisters, her mother, and herr grandmother all had to have hysterectomies at early ages due to problems with their periods. My mother had endometriosis, my aunts had ovarian cysts so on and so on....My OBGYN was amazing. He did check for endometriosis and found nothing...he put me on the Pill...it didn't work. Same with the Shot...He wouldn't give up though and his last resort was blood work. He was the one to find my von Willebrand disease. I was devastated because if i took my pill even a few hours late I would start bleeding and it would last months sometimes. I was even put on one birth control pill every 8 hours at one point which made me to sick to even get out of bed most days. I just knew there was no way I would ever be able to go off the pill to have a baby when I got older which was the one thing I want more than anything is to be a mommy...BUT i just didnt see how I'd ever be able to go off the pill and NOT bleed 24/7. I have since been referred to Indiana Hemophillia and Thrombosis Center. They are amazing and are affiliated with similar centers across the nation. I have met with a variety of different doctors and high risk pregnancy specialists. They all have assured me that when the time comes I will in fact be able to become the mommy I always have dreamed of being. I would suggest that you do research and try to find a dr that has experience dealing with von Willebrand disease. Even if the doctor is too far away to be your primary OBGYN they can at least consult with your OBGYN to ensure the best possible care for you and your baby...don't lose hope! In my experience people that have experience with von Willebrand patients, seem to have a particular softspot for people with the disorder and almost always seem willing to go above and beyond. Like I said if you aren't in contact with a center near you I'm sure the Indiana one can help you find one or even talk to you about all of your options. I've been going there a few years now and they are all so amazing and friendly the website is ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed. I hope this helps some of you mommies in distress right now
Hi,
I have von willebrands I've had it since I was 11, I was on the depo till I was 16 and it was really messing me up, I almost bleed to death on my first period that was how I found out. Since getting off BC my periods have been regular to nonexistent back to regular ranging from 7-12 days long. Me and my fiancé are trying and I wanted to know how implantation bleeding is if it was normal or just like a period?

Make sure your docs are aware. I was given DDAVP pre c section and during. I had no bleeding issues at all during or after like this. I
For the women ttc... I was 43, had tried for 12 years to have a baby, have severe endometriosis with adenomyosis, severe pain from it, had weight loss surgery 3 years prior so ate little and have absorbtion issues, and have von willebrands. my gyne told me there was no possible way i could conceive. Once she definitively told me this i literally got pregnant 9 weeks later! I was in no way prepared physically, over 40, as it was unexpected and was no fine host for a baby lol but i delivered a healthy baby boy! once i let go of the idea of pregnancy albeit against my will because id have always wondered, my mind and body relaxed from thinking and obsessing on when i was ovulating, if the test was accurate (have a magnifying glass that id check to see if maybe a faint line was there.....). ultimately i learned theres a reason we dont conceive when we want, but the reason isnt clear and not ours to know, however when its meant to happen it will so relax because we can be causing such tensions and affecting our bodies in ways we dont realize are warding off what we think we need now. i
