I've had swelling for nearly 3 years. Apparently I have developed metatarsals. Fancy word for swelling along the ball of the foot. I was told to get over the counter arch supports but they only fit the normal foot - I have very high arch and instep. The arch supports just put more pressure on the ball of my foot. Still swollen and painful. I swim for my sanity and walk when I can. Really bummed! Now I have $350 arch supports that Kaiser won't pay for, and while they are very comfy my foot is still swelling after 3 weeks. So 3 years and 3 weeks still pained. Aleve and Ibupropen have not helped. I think I went back to work too soon - 4 weeks but sat at my desk and raised my foot though drover 45 minutes one-way. Been doing cold packs in fridge for 20 minutes and sometimes heat. I will try epson salts soon. I have also done ultrasonic therapy and stretching calf and foot really helped.

I had bunion surgery 4 days ago. I also had cartalige removed and the bone fused in my big toe. PAINFUL and took a lot of pain med the first 2 and 1/2 days every 3 hours. Big bummer is the constipation that it causes. My husband got me a knee scooter which is so much better then crutches. He rented it at a medical supply store. Still very swollen and sore. I have been laying on the couch or in bed watching TV and playing on the computer. Very boring. I think the entire recovery is going to be a long one. Im not happy about it since I am very active and athletic but it will be nice to be pain free and buy cute sandals !!

I had a bunionectomy, tendon release, 2nd toe claw toe repair and morton's neuroma removed on my left foot, and a modified bunion removal on my right foot all at the same time. Has anyone else done this and can you tell me what your recovery has been like? I'm 5 weeks post op and am supposed to have my pin removed in 9 days, nervous it will hurt, but can't wait to not have to worry about stubbing it or my kids kicking it!

I had one double lapidus fusion done in February and the other foot done with the same procedure in June. I wore casts for 6 weeks for both surgeries and could walk without crutches while still in the cast, about 3 weeks after each surgery. However returning to my full activity level has been a challenge because after the casts were removed my ankles were weakened and my calves and foot flexiblity was limited. It is now 3+ months post surgery and there is no running, jumping, high impact physical activity, which makes getting into shape after the surgeries limited to the eliptical or bike. I am still going down the stairs one stair at a time and sideways. I did some physical therapy to work through the scar tissue and work on balance, flexibility and strength and it helped but I'm still waiting for full recovery.
