Thank you all for taking the time to post your issues. I knew this couldn't be as wonderful as my doctor was saying. Thanks to your information I choose not to have this done. I will deal with the heavy periods. Thank you all!

I'm sorry. But you have hundreds of women with the same weight gain issues. Why would you imply that's it all in our heads. I truly believe it has effected our hormones. Dr's have been wrong before. I sure soon one will admit they were wrong.

Wish I’d read this forum before I did it. I was always 145 size 6 my entire adult life. Within a year of doing that I struggle to get below 165 and stay in a 10. It’s all belly weight too. SUPER sucks.

Thank you all for your candid comments -
I’m 49 and due to heavy periods I was leaning towards IUDs. However, after reading the reviews and long list of side effects. I thought uterine ablation is a better option. After reading most of the comments and side effect of weight gains,,,, I think I will just deal with heavy periods.

I’m sick of the weight gain. I had my ablation done in December of 2012. I have gained over 30 pounds mainly in my stomach area. My stomach feels weird a lot. I go to my ob/gyn next month I’m going to demand that he does an ultra sound on me. I’m going to make him look back on the years up to & prior to my ablation & have him explain my weight gain. I’m so disgusted with myself. If I knew I was going to gain this much weight I would have NEVER had this procedure done!! I think there should be a law suit started! There is no way this is a coincidence with this many women. We need to stick together to get something done!

Yes. I had mine done in April 2016, I’ve gained 15 -20 lbs. I’ve been very thin for most of my life. This is very disappointing & depressing. I wish I would’ve known.

Hi ladies. I had my ablation done last May. I’m experiencing the same side effects as most of you. I did some research as to why this is happening wing. Basically by getting an ablation we have enforced menopause so our body has a hormonal imbalance. The hormones that were released before, during and after our periods used to assist in how the fats are distributed in our bodies. Since our hormones are all whacked out the mid section is the easiest place to store the extra fat. There’s a few things we can do. I think someone above mentioned it already. But we need to monitor and change our eating habits. We should eat more fruits and veggies , lean meats , nuts and low fat dairy. Instead of the normal breakfast lunch and dinner , try to have smaller more frequent meals. Exercise is excellent but we should try and do strength training two to three times a week. This will help build muscle which will make us lean but on the scale your weight will probably not change too much, but the fat in our body will decrease.

Hi Guestin Texas. I realize my post reply is a year later but I am wondering how your weight loss is going if you went through with the partial hysterectomy. I ask because I had Novasure procedure in 2010 and have steadily gained weight as well and, like you, my Gyno gave me a partial hysterectomy about 6 months later. However, my weight gain has never slowed down. So far my original 175 lbs. has ballooned to around 220 lbs., all mainly in abdominal area. I'm rather tall so I can sort of get away with empire-waisted tops and hide most of the fat but who wants to do that always? It is depressing because I work out rather hard and try to eat right but nothing budges. My PCP comments on my weight gain because every year as it goes up but I feel she doesn't believe that it is connected to the ablation. Also tried Hormone Replacement Therapy for at least a year until I gave up on that as well as it did not help. Sorry ladies that I do not have anything else to add that will help. Looking for help as well....

DON'T!! I have gained 45 lbs and counting since 2010. I am a athlete since early days of high school and throughout college, as well as the fact that I still play at least 3 different sports including tennis at least weekly. However, with the extra weight and depression over the weight, I tire easily.

ABSOLUTELY! I believe that you have hit the nail on the head. No way so many women are having the same issues after having the same type of surgery.

Hi, you're probably one of the lucky ones. I was younger than you are and in awesome shape (athlete) when I had mine due to heavy, painful periods. Was wondering why my OB-GYN was rushing me to get this done but think it was for financial gain now that I look back on it. I was okay at first as well but saw the weight creeping on a little at a time after a number of months. Realized that the ablation surgery threw me into menopause and I cannot get rid of the excess weight unless I basically starve myself. It's a never-ending nightmare.
