I had a TT 4 months ago and am 13 pounds heavier than I was pre-surgery, despite being a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and having lost 108 pounds over a 2 year period. I have stepped up my exercise program and eat healthily, mostly high protein, fruits, veggies and some whole grains. I am desperately seeking a way to stop this weight gain. Any help is appreciated.

Armor is another one my husband and I found while researching the thyroidectomy since I have to have mine out as well. I am going to ask my endo doc , who is the one that sent me to the surgeon for a consult, what he is planning on putting me on and if he would be willing to try the natural ones. I am praying I can find someone that will if he does not. I am very nervous about all the bad affects that can happen, weight gain, problems with the medication and high bp , which worries me the most since bp is already elevated. Plus losing vit d will be really awful for me since i have osteopenia and I have to be careful with losing vit d. I hope all went well for you though this posts looks to be over a year old. Hopefully things are going great now.

Hi all! Had my total thyroidectomy 2 weeks ago. I had graves for my years. i had to have the surgery as it was affecting my breathing as the goiter was so large. I was so worried about weight gain as I'm pretty fit, exercise daily and didn't want to gain anything. I am slender and always have been. (5'9", 145) So I had the surgery, started the synthroid the next day, also started Atkins diet few days later, thinking it would offset any weight gain. Well, I know it is very early but I feel fine. I'm a little fatigued but have lost about 8 pounds in 2 weeks. So much for worrying. So many posts about the horrible outcomes but we read little about the positives.

I had a total thyroidectomy Nov. 2015. I have gained weight as well. But I think I have let go a bit on my diet as I have been quite strict before and been going to the gym 2-3x a week for quite a long time till I found out I have papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. I was depressed by it (who wouldn't be?). So after operation and radioiodine therapy I divulged myself with every food I've been restricting myself for a while. I'm on 175mcg levothyroxine so hopefully this will help out with my metabolism as I'm eager to go back in shape before going back to work. What's your prognosis anyway? If you don't mind me asking. Have you had the same therapy as mine? Did you also have an isotope scan after the therapy? Sorry, you don't need to answer all these. Just would to talk to someone who has the health condition similar as mine. Thank you! It will be a great pleasure if you or anybody reply.

HI I had a total thyroidecotmy 5.5 years ago and have gained 20 pounds and now slowly loosing. I am questionign the GPs and if they give you the correct thyroid dosage. I workedwith them for many yearsof my life. The more weight you put on the higfher your blood pressure goes and then more medication? Cut out bread and sugards and eat fruits and vegetables and lean meat! I am trying that to see what happens. Cancer devleops in the thyroid because we have not een properly taken care of. I suffered with thyroid disease since I was a child and not one doctor ever gave me medication! I had a lump showing up on the left side when I was 15 years old. They just let the gr
oiter advance and grow into 3 of them which then resulted into hashimottos thyroiditis. I am surprised the glands didnt rupture. By the grace of God and a few guardian angels I am alive!

I am a 41 year old female. I had a total thyroidectomy in 2011due to Hashimotos. Before the surgery I weighed 140lbs. I've been on 100 mcg of synthroid with regular blood test. After about 2 years the weight gain began and so did my worse nightmare. My higest weight has been 180lbs. I eat very healthy and I exercise 5-6 days a week and it it so hard for me to lose weight. I'm injuring myself(knees) trying to work out. My current weight is 160lbs and I'm struggling to maintain it. No matter what I do I am unable to get to my weight prior to surgery.

Just had a total thyroidectomy 3 days ago. Terrified of gaining weight. Good to hear at least one or two positive outcomes. So far the headaches and horrible leg aches are gone since having surgery. My doctor believes I won't gain weight since my thyroid was functioning fine prior to surgery. A goiter was pushing my carotid artery over and also crimping a blood vessel causing severe headaches. My thyroid was 69 grams which was huge. Praying my body accepts the Synthroid and continues to process it like it's my own.

dont wory about any wait gain after your thyroid is removed, but if your TSH is to high, above * The Normal, you could gain, this is called HYPO Thyroid, this is were you are slugish and slow down, this is only if your TSH is to High, taking the levothyroxin or your other thyroid replacment pill to lower your TSH after thyroid cancer like they want to help prevent future cancer will not make you gain weight you can become HYPER Thyroid, this can make you hyper at times, and cause a little more anxiety. no worrys on weight gain as long as you have your TSH low or near normal, just not above normal. thank you mark
