Weight GAIN after hysterectomy seems much more common than weight LOSS. I've read that the average weight gain in the first year is 25 lbs. As far as women's web posts about their negative experiences after hysterectomy, I regret every day that I ignored those and listened to my doctor instead. I NEVER would have consented to having anything removed unless I had confirmed cancer. And the after-effects just keep on growing.

I too am scheduled for a partial next month. I have endo, fibroids and adenomyosis. I had an ablation that did not work totally. I have constant pressure on bladder and back. I too hope the partial will give me back my life and hopefully my bloated stomach will go down some. Good luck to you!

Hello Ladies, I am so glad I came across the forum. I have my surgery schedule for 9/25 and was told that it was much recommended that I have the hysterectomy. With a lof of questions that I had from my Dr. I never thought about asking the question of weight until I goggled the side effects. I am so happy to in a circle with real people who actually went thru the surgery vs reading the garbage that scared the life out of me. Thank all of you for such encourage real life stories. I will keep everyone posted a week from the 25th.

I personally wish I'd listened to the women's negative experiences and "opted out" of this surgery - chose a conservative approach (meds or organ-sparing surgery). It's caused nothing but loss and more loss, accelerated aging, and much heartache.

I am 37 years old and 11 days post op from a total abdominal hysterectomy with only ovaries remaining due to endometriosis.  I also had extensive scar tissue from 2 c sections-some of which was beginning to twist as it grew, my fallopian tubes had attached to my pelvic wall, enlarged uterus (looked about 5 mos pregnant) and I had endometrial polyps.  Diagnosis took many many months because of bad OB/GYN doctors thinking it was in my head or I was over-exaggerating.  The first Dr actually told me I was just having issues getting older.  Anyway-I'm recovering well after 5 days in the hospital.  I had minor possible complications that turned out to be really nothing.  When I went for my follow up on day 6 to have staples removed, I had actually gained 8lbs....however they said that was due to extensive swelling as a result of the surgery and that it would go away.  I don't have scales at home that work but I feel like most of that is going away and I'm healing well.  I have noticed a lack in appetite and a general nauseaus feeling when I eat.  I eat about a 1/3 or 1/4 of what I ate pre op.  My bowels work much better and I expect more energy.  I am off pain pills for 3 days now-which I think helps with decreased appetite.  I feel more thirsty and actually think my cravings are also changing-or like one lady said-just not craving food.

My only concern now is the "overhang" belly now that it seems my belly is deflated.  Anyone else have this issue or tips to shrink it?

I have the "overhang" belly from c section, treadmill workouts and abdominal exercises do help but the skin still hangs a little unfortunately. I am sure when you are healed you will feel so much better.I am scheduled for uterine removal only laparoscopic in less than a month. I am glad to hear you are healing well, thank you for sharing information.

Well, I am scheduled for a TLH BSO deVina.  Which only means total.   However at first I told the doctor I wanted to keep my ovaries. 49 years old (yes I have been pre-menopausal for a few years).  Doctor convinced me to give them up.  Well now I am back on my kick of keeping them.  The percentage of ovarian cancer vs. the benefit the ovaries provide far outweigh.  So I called up the dr. office and they want me to come back in to talk again.  I do not know for what because short of them that I have cancerous cells on my ovaries, I WANT THEM.

I have read so much on all this it is making my husband sick just seeing the web pages.  He thinks I am going to make myself crazy.  The surgery is Oct 28th.  My symptoms are heavy bleeding, pain from the fibroids, and one think I am hoping is from this is when I sit my right leg has this sensation right down to the foot, like someone is pinching my nerve.  Well it is like a tingly sensation like when your foot has fallen asleep.  HATE IT!

I look pregnant.  I am going to take a picture of my belly before and after.  I am going to try to document my journey.  I have had the fortunate luck of finding many who have done the same and it has helped me.  The only thing I didn't find was detail and pictures.

My ovaries supposedly are fine.  I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 20 and had a difficulty time having children.  However I do have 2.  1 I tried hard for and 1 oops baby :).  I was told I didn't have PCOS at the age of 45 but I am not believing that, you don't outgrow it.

My Uterus measures:  Means 139.3.  then 123.7 mm, 150 mm, 144.1 mm.  Don't know what pregnancy month that would relate to but I think it is something like 12 to 15 weeks.

I get bloated at times all the way from the sternum down.  Oh parts of me ARE READY and other parts don't know what life will be like after.  Am I requesting something that is going to make my life worst than what it already is or better.  :(

Oh well just 2 more weeks.

Open to any comments.

Hi Dee

I am scheduled for uterine removal only with laparoscope and possible removal of one ovary. I have endometriosis....but doc will only take one ovary if absolutely necessary like if tumor on it. The plan is to just take uterus, leave cervix and ovaries. I have adenomyosis and am scheduled Nov 1 and I too am still questioning if I am doing the right thing. I am so nervous and cancelled once already. See if your doc will talk to you over the phone, make a list of questions. If there is no risk of cancer it should be your choice to keep your ovaries. I am going to be 48 next month and I am so not ready for menopause yet. I still have regular cycles and no premenopausal symptoms yet. I too am scared of making my life worse too. I just keep reading posts from women who feel so much better. My uterus is the size of 10 to 12 weeks pregnant pushing on bladder and bowels. Follow your instincts with your decision that is what I am trying to do.
