I am 47 and 13 days post-op from a total hysterectomy and bladder sling. The hyster was done Divinci and removed vaginally.

I had post-ablation syndrome with severe back and hip bain, horrible cramps, etc. My rollerball ablation was done in 2010 for heavy bleeding, adenomyosis. I gained roughly 30 pounds after the ablation, and I started having the symptoms of estrogen dominance after the ablation. The back pain started about 2 years after the ablation and worsened to the point I couldn't function or exercise. The back pain/abdominal girth evaluation led to an ovarian cancer scare....During exploratory laparotomy, my ovaries were ok but my cervix was scared/closed up, and no testing for cancer or other causes for pain could be done without risking bowel/bladder preforation...hence, the hysterectomy. I opted to remove ovaries because I am peri-menopausal and I don't ever want to worry about cancer again.
I do have some cases of that in my family tree.

For hysterectomy/sling I was in the hospital overnight and came home. I had six small incisions. The worst part has been the bladder spasms (I took OTC AZO tablets for that) and the gut pains/spasms from the gas they pump in for the robotic hysterectomy. I also developed at UTI two days after I came home due to "rough" catheter removal at the hospital. The nurse was careless and did not position me flat to remove it. I did a bowel prep before surgery, so I was empty going in. post-op I only drank protein shakes until my bowels woke up so I avoided adding more misery from constipation. I've lost about 10 pounds so far. I am well aware that I will have to monitor my food intake from now on, so Ive been using myfitnesspal to track my intake.

I did not take HRT at first, but now I am for the past few days. Minivelle patch. seems to be going ok.
I waited a week to try to get as much of my own stored up estrogen out of my system in case I was estrogen dominant. When I started getting sweaty, I decided to put on the patch. It's the second lowest dose available...time will tell.

Hello Ladies, I know that this thread is older but I must comment, that I'm 20 days out from my surgery and was having a hard time reading the negative comments on other sites. I'm glad that there are women who has experienced some positiveness from there surgery. I'm more at peace with my decision. Thank you!

Thank you very much
I have just been on a site which only offers doom saying most people have gained 30/40 lbs. I have only been out of hospital 3 days have lost about 5ibs but think it will be more when the swelling goes down (look 5 months pregnant) most people have said that there weight comes after about 6months post op. so will have to wait a little while yet

I too enjoy this site as it has not shed a negative light on the procedure. I just had my uterus and cervix removed a week ago and outside of the boredom I can't complain. I weighed 236 on the day of surgery and I weigh 223 today so I would say no to weight gain. I would do it again ..

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and ovary removal 6 days ago and I feel fabulous. A few hot flushes so far but nothing major, no longer taking pain relief and my moods couldn't be better. Although I haven't weighed myself yet I am pretty sure that I have lost weight, my clothes are definitely looser (despite my swollen belly). Couldn't be happie

I have a question about this. I haven't had my hysterectomy yet, but is coming up on the 30th of this month. I wanted to know if sex was the same as before. I have done research and I have seen nothing but bad things after hysterectomy and sex. please I know its a little personal but I am only 29yrs old and Im worried it wont ever be the same anymore.

I can't agree with you more! I am waiting to schedule mine. I am keeping my ovaries. I don't want to go into an early menopause or go on hormones. I'm only 45. And, I have a past with anorexia and bulimia, so I have always been conscious of my weight. So, reading online about all this weight gain has me freaked out to say the least. I still think I will discuss that with my doctor.

Hello ladies, I have scheduled my Hysterectomy on June 11, 2015. At first I was a little nervous but after reading the comments from this site I feel so much better. I'm 48 yrs old and I just started a new relationship with great and wonderful guy. I'm hoping that everything would fine sexually because I have heard stories but I think there were other issues going on with them. As far weight loss is concern I pray to God that I lose. So thank you for sharing you experiences and journeys it was a great help and relief. Thank you.
