I am just 6 days post op from a total vaginal hysterectomy. I am 51 years old and have already gone through menapause. I put my surgery off for a few years. Im not one to go to the doctor but started having many bladder infections and I knew my uterine prolaspe was the cause. I. Scheduled the long over due surgery. The day before my surgery when I did my preadmission testing my routine EKG was abnormal and my surgery was canceled! I had to get clearence from cardioligy, what a scare that was. By the time I had my surgery I was so relieved I passed my cardiology testing I was ready. The first couple days I was very tired. No appetite at all. I became very nauseous from pain meds. I had to make the decision to only take ibuprofen and stopped prescribed meds. Within a day I felt so much better. We have a 2 year old and 6 year old. My husband took a week off work to care fir our girls and myself. So I have had lots if help. Pain is much better. I take a stool softener daily. Drink plenty of water and get rest when I need it. I will say moving bowels for the first couple times were one of the worst part so far. Painful but I also had a rectalcele repair also. Im kind of embarrassed to say but if this helps even one person then it us worth it, if you are gaving problems passing stool with pain and pressure in rectum try putting a towel on the back of the toilet tank and straddle the toilet facing the back of it. You can lean elbows on the tank and rest your head in your hands. The pressure is taken off your bottom and put on your legs instead. You stay in a more upright position making it much easier and less painful moving your bowels. I wish someone would have told me this. I found out by accident when I was miserable and in lots of pain trying anything to accomplish this process. You can move your legs to a position that is most comfortable. I feel so much better already and know I must not overdue it or risk having the repair redone. No more heavy lifting for me. The time has come for me to do what I have been telling myself for years to do, take care of myself so I can care for others.

Ladies thank you for such positive posts. I am 39 and suffer from severe pain from my periods. I had fibroids which I had surgery to shrink and now I have adenomyosis which is extremely painful. I had two UAE procedures in 2013 and a burning of the lining procedure in 2007. All was unsuccessful, my tubes are tied as my kids are 20 and 16. I am supposed to see my doctor tomorrow to discuss a partial hysterectomy, I want to keep my ovaries. My concern is weight gain and sexual appetite. I have heard mixed reviews about both but it is good to hear something positive from you all

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks post open from my vaginal hysterectomy. I have my ovaries but not my cervix. I also had a rectalcele repair. Im feeling great! Very little bleeding past day 3. Of course I have to wait 6 weeks before intercourse but I have to say it is going to be a long wait. So that is not a problem, heck I had thoughts and desire feelings a week post open! My appetite for food as been decreased dramatically which is very unusual for me. Keep positive and remember women generally gain weight going through menapause, I've been through that at 51. Keep active, I have not felt this good in a very very long time.

I just had my TAHLSO 3 weeks ago and i could say that my recovery is so far so good. I didn't lose my appetite but still keeping my weight at 122lbs. I take lots if vit c by eating guava meat. I can climb the stairs, well at least once a day, per my DR's advise. I tried driving too & it was okay. I have no problem with daily bowel movement. Hopefully, this will continue until i fully recovered. Thank God! I feel perfectly fine :-)

Hi, I had a total hysterectomy on 25 March. I can't believe how quickly I am recovering. First week was a bit tough as I am an active person and hate sitting around watching tv. I have gained a few pounds but that is due to people bringing boxes of chocolates and also eating more fast food to save cooking. However I started healthy eating and lost 7lbs in the first week. I am 4 weeks since hyst and feel almost normal. Was swimming yesterday and feel a bit tsore today but hey some people told me I'd stil like be in bed four weeks on and not able to even get in a bath!!!!!!!!! Load of rubbish. Don't listen to the horror stories, eat he as healthy listen to your body. I do know that it is not always as straight forward for everyone and there can be complications but I have no regrets. :)

You will be absolutely fine. Please don't worry. I am so much better and don't have the dread of the pain of periods. Keep yourself healthy before your op I took berrocca to boost my immune system and the hospital gave me pre op drinks which are disgusting but I do believe that they help with recovery. I do still get tired quickly but that's due to low iron. Best of luck hun :)

I have grade 1 of 3 endometrioid cancer. My diagnosis was made because my twat doc thouht my uterus felt thick and had an internal ultrasound followed by a biopsy. The cancer has been caught early. I have had no pain or bleeding or discharge. I am going to have a total hysterectomy on June 2nd and I am not worried or afraid. I think I should be both worried and afraid and am wondering if I am nuts or possiby in denial.

I had a LAVH hysterectomy on 5-11-14. I have definitely lost weight. All of my clothes are loose and my tummy pooch is about half the size it was before surgery. I attribute this to more than one reason. First of all, anesthesia and the pain meds kill my appetite, eating made me full and that actually made my post surgical pain worse, then pooping was difficult due to the inflammation from surgery and pain meds. So I drank my nutrition (why not turn over a healthy leaf?) in protein shakes and green fruit juice I made with my nutribullett blender. No solid food (or very little), plus the discomfort of knowing I had to poop out anything I ate made solid food very unappealing. I am now 4+ weeks post op and my appetite isn't even half of what it was. I am off all pain meds now, so it's not those drugs killing my appetite. My appetite has just all but vanished. I should note that I had fibroids and endometriosis. If I were to guess, I would say I have lost 10-14 lbs since having surgery 4 weeks ago. It has also inspired me to keep drinking protein shakes and eat "lighter and healthier". When I eat a splurge like fast food now, I inevitably feel like c**p after, even though I don't have abdominal pain anymore. I find it hard to believe anyone would gain weight after a hysterectomy.
