Thank you for your post. Just wondering did you have ovaries removed also? My main issue is hormones causing terrible mood swings - lived with it forever and so ready for a new life.

Thanks for your positive post. I also fought surgery for years because I was terrified of weight gain. I finally gave in and am now 5 days post-op. I am currently down 5lbs, and am determined to stay fit once I'm able to exercise again. I truly wish more people would post POSITIVE accounts, as it seems the majority is negative. I KNOW it is harder for some to maintain their weight, (myself included) but 50 lb weight gain from hyst!?!

I just had a robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy on 6/10/15, it's now 6/26 and I feel great. I have to watch that I don't overdo it, since I feel so good. I only took pain meds for about 3 days after surgery then switched to ibuprofen, and other than one day when i thought i was superwoman, and decided to clean house and do a little too much, my recovery has been great. I've lost about 12 lbs so far, don't feel the urge to snack the way I used to, so very happy about this. Have started listening to my body more now so that I'm not minlessly eating, only eating when actually hungry. I think the liquid diet I had to do the day before surgery triggered something for me. I'm so happy I don't have to worry about heavy periods and cramping anymore. I read a lot if the scary stories too, and put this off for 10 year, and now I see that I should have done it sooner. I kept only my ovaries. If you need this surgery, I would say, consult with at least two or three doctors first just to confirm for yourself it's your best option, but if it is your best or only option, then know that there are a lot of positives to having it done.

There is hope, ladies. I lost 10lbs immediately following my hysterectomy. I'm small, so that's quite a lot of weight. Nearly 10% of my body weight. Excellent and unexpected side effect. Who knew! It wasn't loss of appetite. I ate the same after surgery. I don't know why I lost the weight. I wonder if there are any studies on this. Maybe because the cancer is gone, my body is healthier? My tummy is much flatter. Most of the weight came off my belly. It's been 3 months. Hopefully it will stay off.

Four years ago I had stage 4 endo diagnosed after 10 years of begging the doctors to do something other than D and C. I would have severe pain, taking two Aleve every four hours to be able to work. Horrible clotting. Bleeding for months at a time. Anything had to be better. I had the vaginal hysto. Two days in hospital. Reminder : tell the anesthesiologist you want a spinal. A nurse told me that and it was a life saver. Anyway, when I got home I laid around for a couple of days. I didn't have the pain I expected to have. No pillow either. After the third day I had no trouble getting up and down. I felt no different than before the surgery other than no pain. I was on nothing other than a water pill. No mood swings. Nothing. I lost 30 pounds in a month. No regrets at all

I am 39 and had a hyste leaving on my left ovary. I have been in a great deal of pain and its been 2 years since my procedure. I went in for my check up and now I have 3 cyts on that one remaning ovary- so I will be doing test of Ovarian Cancer and they are schd surgery to have it removed. I truly feel if you are have a very bad case of endmetrois it is to your best interested to have it all removed.

New to the group.Hope everyone is ok.I had a full hysterectomy Feb 4,2015..I was 176 b4 surgery and now I weigh 159.Hair loss also.My hair was past my shoulders and now neck lenght..No appetite at all.But sex drive is overwhelming to the point my husband says AGAIN TODAY..I can deal with weight loss but my hair im terrified.Please help

Same here. Can totally relate to exactly what you said. Was joking that the doctor sewed up my stomach a little as a gift to make it smaller. I feel so much better. Finding it easier to choose good foods and fast food is such a turn off currently. Going to try and keep it that way. :)

Thank you for those encouraging words. Mine is in 2 days. I have been an emotional roller coaster because fibroids have brought me to this point. I had them removed twice and we still couldn't conceive. When I'm alone I cry about it. But on the up side, I won't have to live with the heavy bleeding, anemia, and uncomfortable intimacy with my husband. The fibroids and heavy periods seemed to just consume my life once a month. Sometimes twice, which caused my iron to drop to 9.2. So thank you for sharing.

Hi, I am about ready to have surgery on September 1- I also have been reading nothing but negative information concerning having a complete hysterectomy. I have a mass in my uterus and a mass on both ovaries. I have been told I have a high possibility of having ovarian cancer. I am 51 years old and a mother of 8. Please pray for me. I have been encouraged by this site. I am a teacher and planning to return back to the classroom after surgery. What is the average recovery time to start feeling better. I will have an aid in my classroom at all times and will be only working half days for a few months. I was hoping to return after 5 weeks is this realistic?

my surgery is Oct 16/2015 do to many fibroids ...thanks for posting your experiences after hysterectomy, I'm nervous but I am done with weeks of heavy bleeding and clots that look like livers!! yuk!! I will post my experience once is done..
