I've been on Wellbutrin for 3 months now. After decades of steadily gaining weight, I've lost 28 lbs. My appetite is less, but I still get hungry and I still eat. I think it's a combination of slightly increased activity, decreased depression, not craving food all the time, and maybe something chemical with the drug.
My doctor tells me I needed to lose the weight anyway, so it was a good side effect for me. She took me off my cholesterol med as a result of the weight loss.
The med made me feel jittery the first month. After that it wore off. I have had no other side effects.
I started on Celexa. It didn't work well for me at all. I was continually exhausted and there were sexual side effects. I have none of that on Wellbutrin. I would kiss the feet of the scientist who created this - it has helped me immensely during an incredibly difficult time in my life.
snorted coke. it also tastes like meth. so i was told.
Not too long ago I has tremendous stress in my life and ended up in the hospital after having had a major panic attack. My doctor prescribed 50 mg. Zoloft once daily. I took it, but had awful side effects: jittery, anxious, heart palpitations, headache, insomnia and no sex drive whatsoever. So, my doctor prescribed Xanax for the anxiety and insomnia. The combination of the two made me either jittery or sleepy. Definitely not a great way to spend my life. So, after that failed combo of meds, my doctor switched me to 40 mg. of Celexa once daily. It definitely took care of my anxiety and insomnia, but I was a zombie and didn't have much of a reaction to anything, plus I gained 15 pounds in 6 months. I was constantly hungry and felt like I could never get full! I work out 6 days a week and am a vegetarian. I don't drink, don't smoke, and have always weighed around 120 lbs. I am 5'4" tall and 120 has always been a comfortable and appropriate weight for me, so the 15 pounds did a number on me and made me depressed AND anxious about the weight gain. Just last week I was put on bupropion, the generic form of Wellbutrin. I was instructed to take 150 mg. twice a day about 12 hours apart. Well, after just the third day I was jittery, nauseated, had a horrible headache, couldn't sleep and was constipated. After reporting these side effects to my doctor, she told me to take it just once a day, in the morning. I feel like a normal person again!:-) I'm sleeping, don't really have an appetite, but am eating normal amounts, not jittery, but I do have tinnitis, which is no big deal, I can deal with that. It's been only a week, so I don't expect the weight to come off quite yet, and I am on such a small amount that I may not have the miraculous drop in weight like others have had, but I'm okay with that. With my continued exercise and good diet, I'm sure I'll be back to where I was in no time. Like me, you may have to try a few different anti-depressants before you hit the right one. Hang in there and don't give up. If what you're taking isn't working for you, please speak to your doctor. You'll eventually find something that works well for you.
Hi every one, today i got my meds , I'm going to start tomorrow with Bupropion 150mg , what I have is depression and my main factor is my weight < I hope this will help me.
I began a low dose of Wellbutrin 7 day's ago! So far i have increased energy & consentration . I am very pleased with this medication.
My son (15) is taking 350 mg of Bupropion. He has lost 12 lbs in a month and 1/2. He also has trouble sleeping. He has been on this medication (to treat depression) for about 3 months and in my view is not helping with his depression. I see a lot of the posts talking about the weight loss and how wonderful that is but I really want to know if it is of significant help for depression. Has anyone had issues related to the weight loss, i.e, thyroid problems, etc..?
The wellbutrin really helped with my depression. I felt more motivated to do things and more energy. I also had a more positive mood. Initially, I lost 15 lbs within 1 month on 300mg. I was already only 100 lbs to begin with and ended up being 85lbs. It was ridiculous. I know how scary it must be to be a mom and witness your child losing so much weight so rapidly (my mother was scared for me too..she said all my bones were sticking out). Eventually though the weight loss side effect went away and I gained the weight back. The only other side effect of the weight loss was that I started bleeding (like I had my period) every day for months. But that eventually subsided as well. Good luck to your son!
Thanks for your reply and best wishes. Good luck to you too.
