I had exactly the same issue and I I think I'm getting better at controlling it. All the same symptoms and embarrassing situations happened to me too. I tried a variety of different pills and medications and nothing seemed to work.

By chance, while on a holiday, I realized that none of the growling in the stomach/intestines/anus occurred during the trip. After some reflection, I realized that my diet was completely different, especially breakfast. I normally would start every day with "healthy cereal" and two toasts with Nutella and some jam; which I hadn't done during any day of my trip. Instead, I usually had scrambled eggs, or other non-sugar related meal.

I decided to continue this trend back home. I'm happy to report that my body noises and bloating/gas has significantly reduced (I would say about 90%), to much more manageable levels. Now I really pay attention to the sugars in whatever meal I'm eating, to try to avoid the noises. Every now and then I do indulge on cookies, brownies, etc, but I do it when I know I'll be alone and not embarrassed by the stomach sounds or constant gas.

I recommend that you look into your diet and consider if you're able to cut out similar refined sugars and see improvements. I've also been taking some activated charcoal charcoals chewable pills after some meals. They're supposed to improve stomach functions and absorb some of the excess gases that your body/food creates. These pills are cheap (about 5 USD for a bottle of 100) and natural.

Hope that helps!

Cut out bread, rice and all those carb filled foods. I can guarantee that this worked for me and I really think it's worth a shot for anyone who experiences this, as I know how difficult and embarrassing this problem is especially if you have to be around people and in quiet settings very often. Along with cutting out breads and rice, I also try my best to follow this site's specific diet to help me choose what foods to eat and not eat. This diet shows you which foods are less fermentable (okay to eat) and which are more fermentable (the ones to avoid). Really hope this helps! I've never personally tried going gluten free instead of cutting out rice and breads completely, because i always have school and I know that this method works for me and I don't want to risk it. But if you can I think it's also worth a shot.

Hi, it's 2018 and I'm 16 and currently in my second to last year of high school and I think I have the same issue. It started last year and I dread going anywhere at all, even to have a sleepover at my best friends!!! I've been to the doctors because I just couldn't deal with it and they made me have a blood test for lactose intolerance and unfortunately that wasn't the reason... I went and saw my family doctor with my mum and i cried the whole time because i couldn't for the life of me describe how it felt. And like some of these other comments, the doctor said its natural and it happens to everyone so my mum decided to follow her lead and tell me that every time i go crying to her because its happening again. I do not believe it happens to everyone because it never used to happen to me and i never hear noises or grumbling coming from anyone else and i despise everyone who doesn't live in fear and anxiety because of this. I always think back to the days where i could sit in class in silence and not have a worry in world and wish my life was like that. Nothing can stop it and I hate my body so much for doing it to me. My mum said she is going to take me to a therapist to help with the anxiety and to try and not think about it because its 'normal' and i shouldn't worry about it so much. It's genuinely ruined my life and will continue ruining my life and relationships with people until this goes away if it ever does. SOMEONE HELP!!!

Hey! I’m 19 right now, I’ve had this since sophomore year. I know where you are coming from. I can say to anyone that freshman year was the best year of school for me. But one day in my sophomore English class it happened. I didn’t think too much of it but it kept happening. Half of my english class was silent reading (my luck.) I told my mom about it and I also balled my eyes out and she did the same thing. I went to see a therapist and pretty much the guy said I had OCD and anxiety. I also went to the doctors and got a blood test and don’t me nothing looks wrong. I can tell you that I didn’t have anxiety before this. It’s like the noise happens and then you get anxious and then it just builds up from there. What the therapist told me to do was to say in my head over and over “this is my ocd and it’s normal.” It worked like 20% of the time. At this point my mom knows it has been affecting me really bad so we arranged it so when we would start reading I would go to the library and read there. Let me tell you every time I left the classroom to go to the library it was legit the best feeling in the world for me at the time. I forgot to mention that every time my butt would growl I would ask to go to the nurse. I’m not even kidding when I tell you this but I would pretty much go to the nurse everyday in English class. It was the only class I had a problem in. My next class was math I sat right in the middle of the class and it was pretty quiet but I was fine. Junior year comes around I mentally went in thinking that this isn’t going to effect me like it did last year. In the beginning it was on and off. During the beginning of junior year I started to work out and track everything I ate. I lost 60 pounds and for the rest of the year I was fine. I did this because I was a big boy and wanted to lose weight. I didn’t do this thinking it would help with my problem but I guess it did. So I know for a fact that exercising and eating right helps sooooo much. Senior year come around I tried to have the same mental thought of going in positive but it didn’t work out like junior year. And during my senior year I stopped working out everyday and stopped tracking what I ate. Senior year my physics class was pretty much my sophomore English class over again. After having some experience with this butt growling issue I knew having a positive attitude going into the class is literally light and day. The days I went in feeling nervous and anxious it would sometimes happen but during the entire class that’s the only thing I could think of. But in the days that I went in smiling and just having a positive attitude it helped so much. You just literally have to get out of your head and know that time goes on know matter what. I’ve been reading on this recently and I’ve heard about L-glutamine and that’s it has benefit that can help in our situation. But long story short exercising and eating right and having a possible attitude goes the farthest. I wrote typed this up pretty quick but if you have any questions feel free to message me.

I don’t know if you’re still having this problem, but I know EXACTLY what you’re going through. I had the same experience from the 8th grade until senior year of high school. It gave me so much anxiety and I even thought about taking online classes so I wouldn’t have to deal with tbe embarrassment, but I finally found something that worked for me. Senna (or sennakot) laxatives. It’s a natural laxative and it turns out the whole time I was really constipated lmao. Make sure you drink plenty of water with it and I’m pretty sure it should help. My aunt was having the same problem and you and I and I recommended these to her and she doesn’t ha e the problem anymore too. Hope this helps.

Hey I hope you’re still here and able to see this but I literally had the same problem since 8th grade and I realized that it’s because of greasy foods, Chocolate and Lactose from milk. And Once I completely cut ALL of that out my life for a while the Noises stopped!. I’m so serious I would get tummy noises and butt noises and obviously it wasn’t gas no matter what people say but once i cut those foods out I was ALOT better. As well as taking fiber medicine to release constipation because Once you’re lactose intolerant you’ll develop constipation and the noises will be there so it’s good to have supplements to help ease everything out regularly. I had the same issue, and I'm currently trying my hardest to fix it. Mine started in 6th grade. In 7th, I realized when I'd distract my self, by lets say.. Doodling, it'd go away until I focused back on it. Try to relax, tell yourself "it's fine if it happens. No one will care, it can happen." and soon enough I automatically fixed it. I only focus on it every once in a while, and it almost stopped. I still have to be careful until I can fully fix it. Every night while trying to sleep tell yourself "It's fine. If it happens tomorrow it's fine, because it won't happen, and if it does, that's alright" and try to relax.

Please try peppermint tea and buscopan, it helped me a lot. I have peppermint before bed and then an hour two before school along with a buscopan, you can also take a flask (that keeps heat) of it or some tablets to school if you want. Staying calm and relaxed helps a lot, so try meditation or mindfulness. Also if it happens and people hear it please try not to panic as it will not help. Try identify your problem foods that make it worse and try to avoid them when you're in a situation where you don't want noises. For me it was too much fizzy drinks and coffee (espresso), it could be different for others. Best of luck with it and PLEASE TRUST ME it will get better (and anyone who judges you when it happens is not worth worrying about anyway)
